Tell them when you were little, you got sucked into the combine, and Billy jumped in to save you. It was Billy's knife, and it's the biggest part of him they found, and to this day you carry it and can't stand to look at corn. Look really sad when you tell it.

People will assume you're crazy and leave you alone.

Uhm.... sometimes you need a smaller blade. Or scissors. Or a screwdriver.
