Went to use the minimalist this morning but its gone. I really really really hope its sitting on the bench at home where I was making lunches.

Sent from the land of the long white cloud.

I hope it's there pal !

Don't think my Golfer has had to do anything today.

The E01 on the other had we very useful for looking under sofas.

Scratch that, I decided to have a beer last night. :drink:

Quick breakdown of the brand and size of primary knife used:

23% of the primary knives are alox too - mostly Vic but a couple of Wenger SIs.
And as you can see, 50ft trad has a category all of his own in both cases. :D

What are you folks finding the most difficult part of the challenge?

For me,it's carrying the same SAK everyday, without having a choice.

It's been a long,long time since I've lacked choice!

I think 50ft can't be considered minimalist... We limited this to 91mm or less...

Well spoken Kirk! Also for me, not being able to dip into my bag of SAKs and pull out a specialized one for a task.  :climber:

Its not the choice part. I carry a Surge most of the time. Well, was.
The difficult part is the major lack of tools. Pliers, drivers, saw and file. Miss the OH blades like crazy. Mostly because they are faster to open. Did have one job today when I was up on a latter when a OH blade would have been a God send. The utility knife did not and the reach I needed in a tight spot. Had to climb down the latter so I could safely open the blade. I was using one hand to brace myself while working. Walking back and forth to the shop for little fixes that a larger SAK or MT would have taken care of is getting a tad old. But, my Compact is proving to be useful. Just not as useful as my Surge.

Still carrying the Sportsman. Used it to open a package of sesame flakes.

After I opened it, I read the label and threw the damned thing in the trash...

Surprisingly bored with the lack of options on my Compact. It's useful, don't get me wrong, and sadly more than enough for what I've done so far. It's just that it's so... minimal. I want more to play/fiddle with. <- and yes, that is what she said

Most difficult part of this task isn't the tools, I fall into category two and only use scissors and a knife blade consistently. It's the lack of variety of other knives, and not bringing anything else along. I miss my stockman!

Day 7: Midnight Manager becomes COMBAT VETERAN!

After a slow day with only easy task (opening a package, cutting an apple) the Midnight Manager got his first true test.

We were fencing in the ruins of an old fortress (Wartburg, Olten, Switzerland). Due to bad lighting we changed from the sword to staff (the light wood and slower speed make it easier to see). So I decided to test how much distraction the tiny light of the MM can do. Sure enough, it was enough to land two good blows. In all fairness I have to say that I warned my friend and he waited until I had the MM ready.
Still, its interesting to know that in poor lighting the MM light is bright enough to daze and distract.

Well, as it is custom, a sword that draws blood needs naming. Anyway, my MM shall be known as Euryphaessa after the Greek Titaness and mother of Helios.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.
