So, what do you do for work?
on: July 03, 2008, 06:00:52 AM
Well, I just wanted to know- what do you guys do for work?

I am a police officer.. I can remember being a kid and watching so many cop shows and saying I want to be just like them.. And, I got what I wanted. The best part is- I don't dread going to work either..

So, what about you guys?

By day I am a mild mannered cargo surveyor, but when the sun goes down I don my black outfit and equipment belt and become.... DOORMAN!

That was his public service... dancing.

They used him at Guantanamo Bay to get answers when nothing else would work.  :)

Mike, what did you do before you retired?

Computer programmer 1966-2003.
Started on IBM unit-record equipment (accounting machines, card sorters,
gangpunch machines, etc.)
Went on to IBM 360 series.   The first one I worked with was a big as a house,
cost more than a divorce and had 32K, thats right K of main
memory.
And went on, and on, and on...
It's incredible what has happened to computers in the last 40 yrs.

Oh crap, Durham Regional Police in Ontario?  I remember those guys... most of the good ol' boys I remember are probably retired by now, but ~30 years ago when they started they were a joke among LEO officers because Durham picked up all the guys that were rejected from the Toronto force!  Considering Toronto PD had about 10,000 officers, the washouts were pretty impressive!

Like I said, they are better now, but back in the day, you couldn't find a more dysfunctional group of armed officers anywhere outside a cartoon!
