Although it was a longshot and a half-witted notion on my part- and an Arabic or cyrillic script was far more likely- I did check my tables for the Tengwar letters used by Tolkien. I haven't written with them in about 15 years (I used to carve them on my walking sticks), so it's difficult for me to discern the individual letters, but I'm 99% sure it's not Tolkien-inspired. The first character and several other characters do not seem to appear in the appendices to his books. Sorry. Thank God I'm not an archaeologist. There's no telling the stuff I'd get wrong!

If you guys were serious about Sauron's inscription on the Ring of Power, in the Elvish script the Black Speech is written:

well i happened to listen to burzum al lot in my past.i knew already where he took the name but it is kinda funny cause burzum as a band aint so funny and happy music but lotr agin is kinda easy reading and fairy tale-story.

my friend used to know Varg and thru him i started to listen to the band.id say hes bit insane,Varg,at least at the moment he did what he did and got his butt into jail.

It was a weird thing actually. A question about Tolkien popped into my head after reading the other posts, so I googled it. An unrelated search result caught my eye and about 3 clicks later, there I was... Georgian.

I looked some more and think it might actually be Burmese: http://www.omniglot.com/writing/burmese.htm

The trick is that your picture would be upside down. Flip it around and you will start to find some of the letters.

You also have to add diacritics to the letters (The extra loops above and below).

I have to run but I at least found a few letters...

I'm sorry I wasn't more help, Benner. I don't get much chance to mess with Elvish anymore and being a Middle Earthen nut I took a VERY longshot. I was sure it wasn't, but Tolkien DID base his ideas on actual languages, so I was hoping. In actuality I thought perhaps the script might be an Arabic writing.

Yep, I had a chance to doublecheck and I am sure now that it is upside-down Burmese.

If you flip it over, 4 of the 5 bigger characters at the bottom correspond to the numbers "1253". I couldn't figure out the last one for certain.

Look for a Burmese forum somewhere and just ask someone to translate it. I am sure someone would do it for you since it is so short.

Make sure to let us know what it says afterwards too!

Hi all. I've got nothing much to add, but wanted to say I've been following this thread and it's been very interesting! By now I'm really curious what it says!!

At least it sure seems like you found the right language!

I also was able to "translate" the 1235 at the bottom, but couldn't get much farther than that... I could see some letters here and there, but unfortunately they don't mean anything to me since... I don't speak burmese, believe it or not.
