Since Tim is watching us...
on: July 05, 2008, 02:07:39 AM
With word that Tim keeps tabs on this site, I thought we could have a thread with our ideas/dreams for future Leatherman multi tools, all in one place for Tim's easy-reading benefit:

My wishes:

I would absolutely love to see the Squirt E4 scaled up into a full size Juice model. A Juice with fully capable wire stripping heads would be a dream.

And

A resurrection of a c-wrench based multi tool, Leatherman style. There are so many china co. models on the market right now, but no c-wrench multi with real quality. A real bonus would be if it could fold.
Fan of the Leatherman mini-bit driver and the Vic backspring philips.

Better leather sheaths.  Even if they are sold seperately I think they'd sell quite well.

An updated Crunch that's maybe a little bigger than the original, or even a whole new locking plier design altogether.

Hmm, I'd like to see an outside opening CORE.. And, I'd like to see a SURGE with titanium handles w/ a 154CM PE knife! To be honest, I do not like S30v too much.. It is SO hard it chips- similar to tungsten carbide!

I've said this before, but I think a Surge with a wire-stripper in place of the scissors would be great.

Also, I'd love to see another choice or two in the Juice range, espcially without a corkscrew. (KF4 with scissors, anyone?) I think with knife laws (and general non-knife mentalities) getting more normal, non-locking small bladed tools will be more and more in demand.

Maybe some more colors on the Juices would be fun too. Clear and black for me, thanks.

I want a Squirt P4 with pliers as its main tool, but instead of the nail file, a really small pair of scissors like on the Victorinox Classic SAK.  A Squirt that has BOTH pliers and scissors would unquestionably IMHO be the ultimate keychain multitool.  The market for this keychain tool is probably huge considering even sheeple will want to buy this.

I also want plain steel or only CLEAR anodized aluminum handles.  Why put color anodized aluminum when we all know that it will look like total crap in weeks to months?

Make a Skeletool CX (high end version equivalent) but with a PLAIN EDGE and none of that DLC tungsten coating.  The plain SS Skeletool looks much better IMHO than the CX.

Make more variants of the Skeletool that might contain more tools like scissors and a can opener or another storage area for another removable bit.  The Skeletool as a tool platform ROCKS.

GIVE US FREE T-SHIRTS AND HATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   WE ARE YOUR MOST LOYAL FANS WHO HAVE BEEN SPREADING THE RELIGION THAT IS LEATHERMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I second the higher end sheaths. I'll gladly pay for something that is gonna last a while. Make em out of bullhide. Put Leatherman in writing on the brass snaps like the old Wave sheath.

I personally would like to know about Tim Leatherman the "Man" what does he collect? knives, guns, redheads! :D

Did he make his original MT overnight after not finding the tools he needed, did it take him a long time to
get it out on the market? (I've read he had some interesting rejections) What would he do different?

He changed things for us, he's like a hero to us, somebody who got it done. I'd like to know more about him :salute:

Better leather sheaths.  Even if they are sold separately I think they'd sell quite well.

Well I think we all know who he could hire to make them, don't we.

I've said it before, but I'd really like to see a channel lock/adjustable pliers type multitool based on the Leatherman Genus platform.

I agree, a channel lock multitool would be very useful.

Better leather holsters/sheaths.

I'm surprised no company has ever used a slipjoint plier design for a plier head...it would have the widest jaws of any tool out there!

Make it out of tool steel instead of stainless. Diamond file of course and sheepsfoot serrated in addition to regular blade. Wonder how the sheath would work?

You mean a Surge size Crunch??

I like the concept too.  But something tells me the weight may be prohibitive.

Maybe not that big...maybe the handle size of the Black/Kick type tools.  And they could even change the head design so it woulden't be a total copy...maybe change some of the inside tools (better file).

Kind of...they couls use the basic slip joint "mechanism" but keep the same style needlenose or semi blunt heads like the Swisstool.  Actually I think the Swisstool would benefit from having a wider opening mouth, and the tool would still be able to fold up.

Speaking of SwissTools....its surprising they haven't came out with a slip joint model, given that the old Bear MGC patent references just such a feature.
