I heard a rumour they're upping the limit before tax in December.  I think to around the hundred quid mark.  Has anyone else heard this, or was it just a pleasant dream?  :mail:

I don't think there is a limit as such, but the lower the total value, generally the less likely you are to be clobbered for duty.

Anything coming via USPS has about a 50% chance of getting caught, but UPS, Fedex etc is guaranteed.

I think the £8 might be a statutory charge, as the Royal Mail, Fedex and UPS all charge the same fees. I actually work for a "large parcel delivery company" that have orange trucks ;) , so I'll see if I can find out.

I used to come here a lot.

I think my Skeletool may have been picked up by HMRC as it left America 5 days ago according to usps and nothing yet.  No idea if it was marked as gift but its the only reason i can think its been so delayed, unfortunately the tracking system of usps only seems to track the package up until it leaves america!

Don't despair. I usually don't expect a package until a week after that, and then it often takes them a week more to let me know it's here. :-\

I can use the same tracking number from usps on canada post, perhaps you can use it on your post office's website as well.

The status of the parcel you've enquired about is displayed below.

Service:   Parcelforce 48
Status:   In progress
Last tracked at:   North Essex Depot

10-07-2008    00:55    North Essex Depot   Out for delivery

By my estimation that means it should arrive today  :o.  I've got a day off today so im blatently going to waste the day sitting by the door waiting for the postman now  :mail: ah well, the gym and garden will still be there tomorrow   ;)

Yep, it arrived today   this is what i posted in the 'What do we have on the way?' thread

Quote
Well it arrived!  This thing looks stunning and it's even smaller than i thought with a fantastic blade.  I'm pretty sure it's not meant to be this stiff though!  I've read a few things about it being a bit tight when you first get it, but the plier's are practically unusable, it has a one handed blade and two handed set of pliers, there's just no way to open them up with one hand!  I've got the wd40 out and opened and closed them constantly for the past hour, as well as used them on a few nuts but i can still suspend a 0.3kg  weight from one handle without them opening

few more hours of fiddling and there's still no let up in the stiffness of the piers, its not so bad needing a bit of effort to unfold them but they're pretty hard to use properly with this much stuffness in the actual use of them.

I'm not sure you'll ever get to the point of being able to open the pliers one-handed ab, I don't think they're supposed to. I've had mine for several months now, and it's seen a fair bit of use and the opening of the pliers is still tight. I assumed this was the design, otherwise they would rattle when not in use.

Just to check I'm understanding right, is it the case that they are stiff to unfold, but when in "plier mode" the jaws open and close smoothly? I'e. is it the unfolding of the pliers that is actually stiff, but the usage is OK?

If we're talking about the same thing - I actually like that 'stiffness' - if things get sloppy on my older tools, I generally tighten things up to get that effect - I hate things that rattle!

Definately, the knife is fantastic, sharp as hell easy to open and very nice looking.  The bottle opener works well, and i'm so dedicated to safety im going to carry on putting in some more practice using that tonight, to make sure i know exactly how to operate it obviously :P

The bit driver (main selling point for me) is very secure and is one of the best i've used while the entire thing looks fantastic - its so light and small you can clip it to a pocket and forget it.  Its just a shame about the piers, they really are unusable for me at the moment, as i say, they can withstand 0.3kg hanging from them at the moment, it takes a 0.5kg weight to open them, that's really not practicle to use, you need a hand on each handle  :o

This was really only an 'around the house' purchase, so i can keep it on me and have quick access to a one handed, locking knife, a wide set of screwdrivers and bottle opener really so its not a great loss, if i need pliers i can grab my swisstool, spirit, or an actual set of pliers (i think i still have them somewhere) but its a shame as everything else about it is fantastic.

I just found a whole box containing quantities of every item that's in the Black Mini-Tool, but no pliers and no handle parts.
I guess i have to throw it all away then,  :D

My predessor actually did this, he threw a hole box filled with Flair parts away because it was bothering him,

Kwakster - can you get your hands on a blade for a Black Oxide Kick? I picked one up off ebay, but the tip is snapped off. Also the straight driver / file for a Minitool might be useful too, as one of mine has a twist in it.
I used to come here a lot.
