Last month I got a letter from the AA (UK based breakdown cover) saying that my cover was about to come to an end, that I didn't need to worry and they'd be taking £140 from my bank account.
New customers pay quite a bit less than that and I could have moved to the RAC (a rival breakdown company, a bit smaller but I've experienced good things from them) for £99. After a while on the phone to the AA asking for them to cancel my policy so I could move, them saying "no! Don't leave us!", them dropping their price by £10-20, me saying I still wanted to leave etc. I got them down to £105, and for that money it's not worth my time setting up a new policy with the RAC.
A few days later I got a letter confirming the amount of £105 and I then put the whole thing out of my mind. Until now, when I looked at my bank statement and found they took the full £140 out of my account.
Cheeky smurfs.
They will be getting a mildly pissed off Cupboard on the phone on Monday.
I wouldn't have minded if they just said "no, sorry, we can't match that price". At least I've got it in writing from them.
