Is there supposed to be a gap when the pliers are closed???

There is no problem that cannot be solved by the use of high explosives.

I think it's there on purpose; it gives the tip more pressure to grip onto small things.

I believe this was discussed awhile ago , can't remember the exact thread though. Anyhow, it was concluded that this is a purposeful engineering design. If I recall correctly, if they were not like this then the tips of the pliers would be more splayed outward when gripping something and not give as much contact area ..... or something along those lines. But also as Corrugated stated, to help with gripping smaller items as well.

That's my recollection anyhow, take it for what it's worth. :)

Oh yeah, mine are all like this too.

Actually those pliers are a hazard and completely unsafe. All of you who have SwissTools like that should send then to me immediately for safe keeping. :police: :D
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

(Image removed from quote.)
I don't yet have a swisstool but both my leatherman charge and SURGE have the same gap, so guess its normal for any multitool.

The P4 is like that too, rather noticeably in fact. I think it must do with being able to gain the most surface area for best grip.

My Kick is the same. Is this design only in multitools, or are regular pliers the same?

None of my regular pliers do that, but they are all fairly cheap and old.
