Sometimes the factory edge gets a bit soft from the heating that occurs during sharpening etc. You may find than once you sharpen it a few times you will unveil harder steel.the only soft edges I have seen were on really cheap knives.
I've had three over the years that I suppected the heat treat was bad. A Buck 110, Spyderco C16, Emerson CQC-7.
