What to do with 93mm "First Mate"
on: November 30, 2014, 07:51:56 PM
I do look out for old alox "Donors" so I can have a go at modding.
Sometimes I go a bit over the top and bid more than I should or get something I am not sure is modding material.

I have bought an Red Alox,Old Cross First mate.
It is one with brass liners and no Keyring.
Tools are:
Cap lifter/Screwdriver (no PAT marking) / pruner blade
Saw
Mainblade w. 4 line VSSR tang stamp, no backside stamp / Marlin Spike
All tools except for tha blade are fine. The blade though is only as big as the Marlin spike.

Can someone date the knife?
Is it rare and should I pass it on to a Collector to replace teh balde and retire it?
Shall I send it in to Victorinox to have the blade replaced and make it a user?
Or shall I send it to one of our Modders to make some nice Custom out of it?

I am not sure how rare it is, but am sure it is rare enough that I should not have a go at it.

Yes, I will post pictures.

Zoidberg, I can imagine trading it.

But nonetheless I´d like to know a bit more about it.

Opinions, suggestions? (apart from the usual offers of proper disposal... ;) )

I'd send it in for a new blade. Then through it in my pocket for a user

So sad what was done to that blade. It doesn't look like over sharping from use either. It looks like they wanted that shape? Weird?

I think I´ll ship it home to Switzerland and see what they can do. I will keep you updated.
