Out on our walk, the local heron didn’t fly off despite walking close by

A friends daughter has one as a pet, and I totally forgot, now she’s a little goofy at times, well we asked her something and she was like “well maybe after we take our dragon to the vet” and for the next couple of sec I was like  huh, oh oh the bearded duh

Our osprey is back for the summer.  :)  Sadly he didn't get a fish on this try.

The Osprey CAN fish.  I just couldn't get a good photo of him doing it.  ::)

My most fortunate nature photo. That was a wild fox and it knew full well that I'm nearby and approaching. (As one can tell by the ears pointing at me). I kept talking so it knew were I was and hopefully would stay put while I approached around in a large arc to get this front view.

(And while square format with the object dang in the centre might not be textbook perspective and composition it is the only thing that made sense here - there are lots of less photogenic stones and bushes just outside the frame on both sides).

The geese around here take off at first sight of any human. (Well, one exception, but she/he is the odd one out). You have a long zoom or special trick to get close?

I have this little project were I try to get photos of the various wildlife around here, but I would need a far longer zoom for the geese. I hope to get a photogenic stout or otter around here soon. The stouts have way too much energy and crazy moves to get sharp, while the otters are too shy. Oh well. Would be less interesting if it was easy I guess.

That was just my phone zoom from about 20ft away.  The geese around here are bold and some actually go after people or dogs, especially if they have goslings.  But this is a populated suburban type neighborhood that also has a fairly large goose population.  I have actually counted about 50 geese at one time in the field behind my house. Just a few days ago, by accident because I didn’t see her earlier, I got within 10 feet of a female sitting on a nest.

Here I would be lucky to get within 100-150ft. With the notable exception of being in a car which worry the geese (and eagles and ptarmigans) far less. Some photographers show up in cars with 600-800mm lenses pointing out of the windows and they get a lot closer.

We have swans around here in the summer, and they will either swim away or attack if anyone closes in on them. I've never tried as I don't want to interfere or disturb them just for photos. Berry pickers by the lakes attract their attention though.

We have a male ptarmigan which has made the area by the house its territory. That one is fairly used to us although it still angrily protests to our presence.

A lemming which is busy eating. Lemmings are normally real hot heads and get crazy angry if you approach. But in lemming years are there are so many that many of them just seem to give up all ideas of personal space and territory. They put away the anger and get real docile and carefree. This one was busy eating while I put a camera within 10 cm of it and kept making clicking sounds - it couldn't have worried less.
