Mad skillz

This is the trailer we are loading today.  The rig is just out of frame on the left.  I imagine this is a pain to drive forward let alone having to back this thing up!

Some of the northern rigs that haul over ice roads are like that.  This one has three hinges though which would make it a pain to maneuver.

This particular one also has steerable rear wheels but I have dealt with a lot that don't.

Any picture of the rig? Is it just a standard day/night rig?

Yup, just a standard rig.  Nothing special about the rig at all, just a complex trailer.

What's going on that beastie? Super-sized transformer? Extra-large petrochemical unit?

I'm always amazed how easily one of our guys reverses a trailer with a bogey, so two points of articulation. I think even he'd struggle with that :D

It was a transformer.  I handle all kinds of cargo bit there's a big wind farm going in just a little ways up the road from me.  Last month I was handling the windmill components.

If you have to work, you might as well work on something that interests you, and every day for me is something different.   :D

Best to just dig it out and flick it away, then you can concentrate on the job at hand.

I used to do aircraft pushbacks several times a day when I worked on the ramp at Auckland. 747s, DC10s, 767s and 737s mainly with occasional other types.
It's a bit nerve wracking at first especially if you start thinking about the up to 400 people aboard the aircraft and trying to give them a smooth ride.
Our tugs were powered by two (yes 2) 8V71 Detroit 2-stroke diesel engines. One driving each axle (fwd and rear) through 6 speed semi-auto transmissions.
With nearly 700hp and a top speed of just over 20mph that means a LOT of tractive effort.

Hmpf, only that sort of transformer.  :(

I was hoping for some Optimus Prime stuff.  :D
Have fun.

Bye,
