My Maglites and me
on: July 12, 2008, 04:55:22 PM
Not sure where Maglites stand with you guys but I love them :D  I just bought a new Maglite 3D and a Maglite Mini at Sams Club last night for 20 bucks.  It's my 2nd 3D but my 1st Mini Maglite. I have also had a Solitaire but alas it no longer works.  What do you guys think about them?  I have also changed the bulb in my 1st 3D to an LED which I find rather handy in certain circumstances debating whether to change the bulb in my new one.  Thanks for any comments ;)

Can't you send the Solitaire in for replacement?

It wouldn't really be worth it.. You can buy a brand new one for only $5 bucks!

Do you have the Reg bulb or the LED bulb?  I have the LED on the big one and it does make the light brighter but it is that whittish blue light I can't decide if I like reg light or LED light ???

Any thoughts? :)

No, I only have the standard bulb.  I am hoping to stick a hotwire kit in the AA one day.

I am pretty happy with my NiteIze and TerraLux upgrades as well. But, in this day and age- I'd rather carry around a Fenix or a SureFire..

Yeah I think I have a bulb similar to the Terralux upgrade in my 3D ;) I am happy about it.

I am not much of a flashlight man but I guess I need to look into a Fenix or Surefire as much as you guys praise them :)

If you are thinking about getting a light from Fenix then you should start with an E01 and build up from there.. At least that's what I would do.. But the L2D is another great first light.. When in doubt, buy both!

I just bought an E01. I figured it was a cheap way to see what all the Fenix fuss is about. Plus the run time is phenonemal and I really wanted a small lower level EDC light for just looking inside computer cases, etc.

I went for the gold colour. I debated for a while, but I figured that gold would be easier to find in the dark.

Most people seem to generally go for black and drab dark colours though. Is that solely because of tactical & camouflage concerns or is there another reason?

I like Hard Anodized because it's durable. It just happens to be dark. I like black or HA for the pocket clip or for any light, knife, multitool that sticks out of my pocket because it's less noticeable than chrome or lighter/brighter colors.

I like yellow lights, knives for the fact that if you drop them or lay them down they are more noticeable and easier to find.

This seems like a good reason to buy both.  :D

See, that's the consumer in you talking. Just because something doesn't have five operating modes and four hundred moving parts, doesn't mean it's junk. Now, if your gripe was with Maglite reliability, you might have had a case.

There's nothing wrong with Maglites--they do their job well, but there are much better products available from a durability and performance standpoint.

Oh, I'm sure there are. In fact, I'd be grateful for specifics.

However, I just don't think it's a valid reason to diss such an iconic company and product.

You don't mock PST by comparing it with the Swisstool, do you?  ;)
