I eliminated the manager only due to the fact that I'm super picky about my pen.

As for the midnite makes... just be sure if you get one, you get a new one with a white LED, not the old red LED. I have a Swisslite with the red LED, and it's next to useless.

Is there a Rambler with a light?

Would love to see the light before I pick one up but they not to expensive.

Is the light model heavy thicker?

Nope its the Manager.  I'd imagine it is a bit thicker and heavier.

No big loss, IMO. If you don't want the pen, I think you're also better off with a separate light, even if it's just a fauxton. I'll see if i can get a beam shot of the red LED, if you'd like

Thanks but no need. Toothpick for the win over stupid pen.

Got my Olight anyhow.

I will say.....none of them. Never did get along with them. I like the Wenger one a little better. They are a tad bigger. And the way my keys are set up, it does not really allow being able to add a small SAK.

Manager or Rambler. Contentious statement warning: Could be simply the best tool load on any SAK . Philips combo tool is just so versitile and punches way over its weight. Scissors are so good. Pen is far better than its given credit for. It carries no surplus tools, wants for nothing. Try saying that for any other SAK  :pok:

Ok I will give it a go.

Compact with a added phillips instead of the CS. BAM that just happened.

I do feel what you are putting down though Kirky.

The Compact does miss some driver capability, hence my new love the Skelly is working out.

Skelly has bits I will give you that. As far as SAKs go the no CS Compact has all the driver bases covered to some extent. Inline phillips would be nice I grant you.

My wife would rather I have nothing chicks dig and I like the cheap twist top wine.

+1....but while I'm here why not consider a classic? Its name says it all. I recently replaced a rally with a classic and I find myself using the scissors more than the mini phillips. However, the Rally is never too far away and came in handy when I upgraded my MacBook recently. Ok, so go with the rambler...it has it all. Shoot, I guess I have to get one now too... :climber:

Roommate put one on her work id badge and it hasn't come off.  She said it get used several times a day.

For everyday light task, office work, etc. the M. Manager is wonderful. For sometime a M. Manger was my only knife/tool and it served me well.

@HarleyXJGuy. All you have to do is swap scales. Grab a used Rambler Manager M. Manager whatever and just swap around the scales. You can find used SAKs all over EBAY. If you like the idea of the LED then get one with the white LED (red ones suck) then swap out the pen with a standard scale. Easy and you get exactly what you want.

Another tick for the Rambler here. It's got the necessary bits in a shockingly small SAK.

[Though this size is too small for my hands; as a result my Rally is the only SAK I've cut myself with... don't mess with the mini blade...! :-/ ]

Yes. The light is built into the scale of the 58mm line. The victorinox logo is the activation button. I've considered doing a scale swap, since they don't do one T&T slot and the light on any tool but the swisslight. I find a toothpick really useful, and the pen really... not. swapping a single scale would solve this problem, but would also require buying two tools. And for that cost, I'd rather just carry a 50 cent fauxton flashlight, and keep the scale with tweezers in it.

I hope this pic illustrates it clearly.

Funny thing is Harley,I've done that mod your describing(Duke of Blamington, though to me it's a DofE with a spear point blade),but the nail file on the 58s knocks spots off that on the hook.

I have a dark and horrible thought that my work EDC could be striped down to a Manager and an LM Mini

So the lite scale is just a little thicker?

Pretty sure I will not buy a lite SAK just to build another one but it is nice to know in case I find one cheap someday.

Just stick with my way more better Olight I3.

It's about twice as thick as the standard scale. I don't know if you consider that 'just a little thicker'.

Just stick with my way more better Olight I3.

And that's about how I feel about it too. The light is a neat idea, and maybe useful when all else fails, but I think a dedicated light is a better way to go personally.

That means... like I said... get a Rambler. :D
