Like they say, use caution and you should have enough left. One idea I found here that really worked for me since I do not have a proper shop is to peen one end by putting it in a drill and as you run it on slow speed gently whack the end of the rod (at an angle) to create the 'shroom. The spinning evens out the impacts. You will have to pull the rod out a few times but it is easy to do.

If you end up short, let me know. I ended up with more rod than I really need. I might not be on the forum much until the new year though. I'd be happy to send it along.

Go through the mod section for pictorials - I did that several times to get the whole process in my head and still put the layers together wrong.

At least I realized SOMETHING  was amiss. ???

The first donor ( victim ) came in today. The Compact is in pretty good shape... pocket worn and with some scratches, but it looks okay. Somebody tried to sharpen it... doesn't look like a terrible job, but I'll reprofile to my needs. I'll try to get some pics posted tomorrow. I won't take it apart just yet, though. :)

And Mr. Gigahertz, I may hit  you up for some lefover brass rod. :)

Thanks!!

Sam

I buy this good man, Jeremy. Write to him via email.

Won't the shipping be pretty high for shipping to the US?

Contact Jeremy and ask, shipping to Russia was no less cheap, but brass rods are very much needed..

LOL I edc a Compact and am very fond of it. I picked up a MUCH used compact as a donor... If you can come up with a cheaper way to get a donor combo tool, I'm all ears. :)

So... The compact is in a little worse shape than I thought...

The corkscrew was bent out from the frame... I was able to fix that.
The combo tool was slightly tweaked, I think I have it aligned properly now.
The scissors are pretty chewed up AND someone tried to sharpen them from the wrong side, I'm not sure they are salvageable. We'll see.
The main blade has been reprofiled. Judging by the shape, someone put a bad nick near the back of the blade. The reprofiling looks pretty good, but it's obvious that the blade has lost a bit of metal.
The mini screwdriver is missing.
The keyring is missing.
The scales are VERY pocket worn, but not cracked.
The pen, pin, toothpick, and tweezers all look great.

Sure I know a way. It may be a felony or class 2 mis but you distract Syph and I will grab a handful of combos.

Send it in and get a warranty replacement perhaps?
