Someone replied to a old post about the Rebar challenge and in that thread was this post by Glorn.

Yep, he's already down the rabbit hole.

Get the Classic.

I went with a Rambler but pretty much the same thing.

But also get the Explorer. Check with the seller and make sure the mag lens is glass. Buy from Feline Vet.

Check, bought from Tim lol.

Next you'll need a Cadet and a Farmer.

Two Pioneers and a Cadet on the short list.

Then go ahead and get the Compact.

Check. Modded with custom wood scales.

From there you wanna go Swisschamp, then OHT, then Outrider, then one of the Rangers.

SC check, DAK on the way.

And you'll need a Huntsman and a Ranger.

Wenger version of this on the way.

A one hand Sentinel with a pocket clip is a must have as well.

After that you'll be looking at Cybertools, colored alox, and saks with things like marlin spikes.

CT 41, Red Alox check and check.

But don't get too crazy there. By that time you'll need your money for the Syph custom you have been dreaming of with orange anodized scales, brass liners, and only the tools you now know you really want.

Syph custom. Yep on the waiting list.

As for corkscrews. . Start drinking wine. Also good for untying knots.

No wine here so that is good I guess.

You should drink more anyway now. Then you'll have something else to blame when you find yourself broke and buried in Victorinox.

No Spirit or Surge on the way. Was very close to pulling the trigger on a Surge then the SKTC happened and a Skelly won out.

They are equals. The proper saw and file I don't understand. Both models work very well. And this rust thing I keep hearing about. I have yet to see mine do it.

That reminds me though..

Have you picked up a PST yet? You need to. Try to find a NIB one. Black oxide is really nice.

And you will want a PST II as well. Excellent scissors and just so compact and slick.

Which will mean you are going to need a Flair. It has a fork. A FORK!

You know what, you probably ought to be ordering a Crunch right away. Goes great with a Farmer, and you are planning to get a Farmer for yourself for Christmas I would presume. Go ahead, you deserve a little something.

You can skip half that stuff and save alot of $$$ and ebay time.  Here are the essentials:

Classic (alox and plastic)
Alox cadet, pioneer, farmer (might as well get all three)
Spirit X
Explorer (possibly a Champion or Swisschamp)
Wenger/Delemont s16

Once you get these, you have a pretty much all your bases covered.  Everything else is a variation on the above.  IMO you can then get into mods.  Don't forget the nail polish trick for a low end color mod on the alox models. 

In reality, a Spartan and a Classic makes for a wonderful combo.  You should limited yourself to these for a month or so.  $5 on ebay could get you a set, shipped!
