Too loud and dangerous for class I'd say. It took a friend whole 5 seconds from "Let me try it." to firing them straight into his face.

Great for in between classes though.

Those balls look awfully addictive.

I got an interesting fiddle pen recently:

The Usus. i pen. The two halves are held together with magnets, while the wave shaped interface lets the two halves connect in either the open or closed position. The main fiddle factor is that while holding it, one end can be flicked round 180 degrees from one open position to another, with a gentle thumb movement. Seeing how many times it can be flicked before it inevitably drops into the closed position.
I think I bought it for £11, so it's not too bad.

Another and even more fiddlable magnet pen is the Polar Pen: http://polarpen.com/
Basically it's made almost entirely from small magnets, allowing it's complete disassembly and rebuilding as something else. I'm debating whether to get one or not. I've been on a big pen bender for small and/or unusual pens, which will become apparent when I finally get round to doing some reviews.
Those pens are very interesting. Especially the polar, I wonder why having a pen that acts as a protractor wouldn't be standard issue for an artist or engineer. The ability to draw a circle is NOT a common ability....

I'll probably end up buying one. I should start a poll just for "forum induced purchases" and see how much money we spend in a month because of this place!

I think it'd be even better to combine it as a lanyard. People would never know it's dual purpose!

How about a frag grenade jet lighter?

I found these at a local store and bought a pair with the idea of gifting them to close friends....but I am having a little too much fun flicking them...that I need to refuel one.   :D

I fidget with anything in my hands really   But one thing I particularly like are the half-stop implements on Vics. The half-stop makes them one-hand enabled which is good :) So, usually, the bottle opener on a Cadet or something like that, open - half closed - open - half closed etc.

Well we went all digital at work two years ago and I don't even have to sign my name anymore on any documents, everything is signed digitally so as anything you don't do often, you get out of practice with it.

Still enjoying my keychain fidget.

I've found out that if I have it in my right hand while driving I almost never change the song on the radio.

I used to have a pretty bad habit of clicking to the next song just to do something.

I actually ended up making a fidget, due to this thread - just 2 chain links connected (4 posts in total equals 2 links, right?). Not much movement in it, but I couldn't remember the design of the fidget in the first post; got a project for tomorrow now. Might even look into making that other one as well, the one with two keyrings and two links.

Ohh, btw... That Polar pen? I want it!  Looks awesome and I love playing with magnets.

Bringing this topic back from the dead!

I've also been bitten by the hand spinning tops bug. :ahhh :ahhh

Here are my attempts at making one.

1st prototype, more of a proof of concept.
I remembered I had some worn derailleur pulleys, and decided to try and make something out of them.
Cleaned them up, degreased them, and gave them a spin... That was a bust! The ball bearings had bits of rust so, I extracted the bearings from the pulleys, bought a cheap bearing, degreased it, and glued the 3 bearings together with super glue. It worked out nicely but it just spins for a few seconds...

I am now working on my 2nd prototype.
Bought 5 bearings, 1 good quality one and 4 cheap ones to use as weights.
Again, degreased the bearing, and this time, I'm putting them together with screws between 2 layers of 0.5mm carbon fiber sheet.
This one is still a work in progress, and will look a bet better once finished.

I'll update you guys once I finish it.

Here it is! V2 is finished... mostly...

It spins much better than V1, but, as it was made without any precision tools, it's not perfectly balanced. Overall, I'm very happy with the result.
Also, I learned something in the process... rubbing alcohol and plexiglass don't go well together. It's cracked allover, but it's a nice effect. I'll have to make new thumb rests.

(here you can see the thumb rests without any problem)

(here, after cleaning it with rubbing alcohol, the thumb rests are all cracked up)
