Here's a good price on the SC2. Sierra has both silver and blue for $39.99. Link below:

Yeah, I've noticed these.  Good price for a tool that is so hard to come by.  Pity they won't ship one to the UK.  I've been trying to get one for a good while with no luck at all.

If you follow their links they will ship to the UK for items $30-$60 they charge $32 which seems a little steep  :(

Why is shipping from US retailers to Europe so much?  Is it because of customs??

No because we can still get stung by custom's once it get's here :(

I really have no idea why it's expensive, but then postal services the world over are an awful lot more expensive these days :(

I think it's because they have "standard" arrangements with their couriers to make their admin simpler. Also, they tend to go with the 'express' delivery and not offer cheaper options, so it's decent value, but sometimes you'd be happier to wait a bit and pay less!

E.g. I bought that Cabela's Charge, and the price for shipping was the same whether I bought 1, 2, or 3 of them.

Definitely the sort of thing for us UK people to organise group buys for! Split 3 or 4 ways, the shipping isn't that unbearable then.

Not much you can do about import duties though :( and if you order something from a big company such as Cabela's, using UPs / DHL etc) you are almost definitely going to have to pay duty!

I used to come here a lot.

Just as a comparison, I sent a package back to Mikko that was about the same weight and that only cost about £3.50.
I'm back!!

Well, a lot of US retailers and eBay sellers will even tack on an extra $20 just to ship to Canada. I have been quoted shipping charges of $25-$30 to ship a SAK many times. One of the online stores want $20 to ship a pocket clip for a Kick, and many wanted $15!

I don't know why retailers do it, but I have heard many reasons from eBay sellers. For the most part, it boils down to sellers wanting to be compensated for a perceived additional risk and/or complexity to doing business outside the US. A few legitimately do not have a practical shipping method in place, and it does cost them a lot extra - which just shows that they are not really interested in encouraging international sales as it is extremely simple to do.

Another issue is general distrust, and many people will not ship anything anywhere without tracking. When available, international tracking is very expensive, regardless of size.

And then, there are those who are simply gouging because they can.

On a related note, I can never figure out why Amazon doesn't ship multitools or SAKs to Canada. It drives me nuts everytime someone posts one of their great sales and I can't order from them. I thought they used to deliver everything internationally, and now they only do it on a few items.

It seems to cost a lot more to ship stuff overseas from the US than it does to ship stuff TO the US.
The sellers are not gouging,  the shippers may be.
