Case knife. 3 blade stag in a tin

My son received a case knife still sealed in the tin.
Package says 3 blade stag.
Just wondering if it's worth leaving sealed or should we open it and check it out.
This knife was given to my father in law several years ago and has been sealed.
Any real value or just a nice case knife.

Me, I would rip it open, snag the knife then go cut something with it.
It may be worth something down the road if it not opened.

Not much of a case xx expert, but it seems to be a regular line Stockman product.

The value seems to be around $60, so it is about the same as any similar case xx product. According to ebay it may be from the mid nineties.

You may want to use it as it is a nice knife and is not likely to go up in value. But you never now, as some older case knives do go up in value a lot.

That's what I wanted to know. This is the first case knife I have messed with so I didn't want to blow $500 by opening the knife.
