Wenger Setter (Pointer) Info/Help
on: December 19, 2014, 04:19:09 PM
Arrived yesterday...great lightly used condition with a nice tool set.  It has the keychain but I didn't extend it for the pic.

Reading SAK Wiki, it is a locking version of the Champ which was the predecessor to the Tool Chest.

Anyone know a date range and if it's scarce/rare?

Nice find.
This knife had been in production for quite some time (from late '70s until '90s), don't know the exact dates, sorry.
The name "Setter" was only used for the very first versions (with, for example, the 5 turns corkscrew), so your example is more a "Pointer", as this was the only name used from the '80s.
As this was an North Amercan only version, other forum members may have more details.
I would personally say it is medium rare: there are not too many, but I saw quite a few of them for sale on ebay.
All this, just my personal opinion, of course.

A pretty useful one for sure and still in a manageable width!

Except for the different fish-scaler.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

besides scaling fish, it could be used as an impromptu fork, or a poking device

It would also be a nice little weeding tool in the spring when the unwanted vegitation is young and frail
