Blade Wear

Whilst I have no doubt (and the many warranty threads will attest) that the hamfists here can easily break a SAK when they put their mind to it,

I wonder, has anyone carried (& sharpened) the same blade for long enough to end up with the kind of wear that might retire a pocketknife?

As always, pics!

Nope, despite what the naysayer's say, I've never had to sharpen them that often :)

Even Def 20+ year old one's blades in good shape :)

I haven't - probably because I can't seem to hang on to a SAK long enough for sharpening wear to become an issue.

But, I have seen pics over on CPF and EDC of SAK mainblades worn down by repeated sharpening.  Some had been sharpened to the point that they could no longer be pocket carried for safety reasons.

:ahhh :ahhh :ahhh I think some of these are a result of poor sharpening technique, unnecessarily coarse media or power sharpening.

I'm guessing that has to do with cutting live wires... but that's just a guess. :-\

I keep the blades on my EDC shaving sharp and that depends on howc much I use it /them . My Swisstool RS sees the most EDC and gets a run up and down the Sharpmaker quite often . I'd rather do 5 or 6 swipes up the stone each night then let the blade get blunt and have to spend ages on it . And no I have never worn the blade out .

Not many :D

The knife came to me roughly that shape already. But as its such a nice tool combination I thought instead of relegating it to the scrap box I'd thin the back bevel out a bit and put an edge on it.  All went well, so now I carry a Scientist of all things as my beater!

I keep intending to retire it, its not like I'm short of alternative SAKs but it keeps sneaking back into my pocket ;)
