Not a Vic Walther right?
on: December 20, 2014, 09:10:02 PM
Hey Guys -

Just wanting to confirm what I think I already know. These Walther GAK's on the evil bay are not Vic's correct?

Having not kept up with GAK's too much, these aren't the current NATO contract/issue are they? If so, are they off-shore made?

Just asking as I've a Vic with the German eagle, and a NATO logo one, but I need a Walther logo'd model for the collection. They don't pop up often.

Thanks guys! Joe

Hi,

not the knife you mean. The knife shown in the pic is the current Walther
modell. NOT MADE BY VICTORINOX! It's done somewhere in Asia.
You can buy this for ~ 10 Bucks on the bay:

Yeah, that's where I lifted the pic from. But it isn't the current NATO issue is it? I don't  know what knife is I guess is what I'm saying. But surely they wouldn't go so cheap I would think. Or does each country choose for themselves nowadays. Just from what I read, the U.S. guys carry about whatever they want.

But I'll avoid these for sure and keep watching for a Vic Walther to bubble up one of these days.

Btw Markus - your tag line gave me a chuckle. Good one.

Here are the Victorinox Walther and Mauser knives.

The Victorinox NATO was a commercial offering, and not standard NATO issue.

Don't know of any NATO-standard knife. Believe they're issued by individual countries.

It´s not current Nato issue.
It seems to be roughly built on the old 108 mm platform. Most likely it´s made cheaply.

A real Walther Vic should look like this:

The pics are mine, but I do not longer own the knife.

I was tempted to buy one of the cheap new Walthers to play with.
They seem to be the german Smith and Wesson - Selling out the name for cheap knives and flashlights.

There is a Walther branded Multitool, the Multitac, too - It´s a knife based tool with foldout pliers.

Edit: coloswiss types quicker than me...

Nice examples of those models Colo - thanks for sharing the pic. And also appreciate the great replies. This forum is such a helpful place.  :salute:

Hi Joe

I think ColoSwiss  is right. The "new Walther 108" is not an official knife
in any army. It may a good beater for your toolbox but nothing too collect.

Shame - I don't like they way very respected names sell themselves out to put their brand on what amounts to pretty much a POS. Too many great names have gone down the drain in quality in this fashion.
