Leatherman Wingman Scissors.
on: December 31, 2014, 07:40:30 AM
A couple months back I transplanted the Wingman scissors to the Charge.

However I was not impressed. They didn't cut very well at all. Just pushing fishing line out the front.

I came up with an idea to improve them. This idea was put off for weeks until today. As I started the hack I decided to change the idea a little to better show the difference between the stock and hacked blades. So instead of taking a little from both blades I took a lot from one of them.

And the result?

The scissors work much better. Cuts through the fishing line with ease. Not bad for half an hours work.

Nice one, bro'!   :tu:

My Mini-Surge project has been pushed deep into January. Will most likely do the same mod on the scissors.  :salute:

love the mod, and love the pics! :tu:

do you think the asymmetric blades improved the cutting performance, or was the improvement just due to the new edge you put on the scissor blades? do you think it would have been the same improvement if you had taken a small amount of material off of both blades? what if you just filed both sides?

so many questions! :ahhh

I suppose I should just try some of these myself.

nice work, my friend. :tu:

I think the improvement comes from the reduced cutting angle.
I didn't change the grind at all.
I would recommend taking a little off both sides like I had originally planned.

I'm slow today, took me a while to realize what you did (that and I don't own a Wingman).

Nice work :tu:

I'll give that a shot the next time I put Wingman scissors in a mod. :salute: (hopefully soon... I have plans, just haven't found time yet...)

I'm guessing it is a 20lb mono.

I too, have put Wingman scissors on my charge, but I’m not satisfied with my work because they don’t lock in the open position like they should. Can you enlighten me on how you did the mod?
