I love VW's!  Mine haven't really been "classic" but I currently have a 2010 Golf and I used to have a Fox.

I always wanted a classic Beetle.

Have always wanted an old Bug.

Don't they come with no heaters though? Can't be fun in Canada.

Whell, maybe the Newer Mexico Modells have heaters, but the olders mybe not..
I allways wanted a T2 or T3 "VW Buss" or Bully but in decent conditions, they all too expensive or they have to many miles /km..
Now im on the way to get me a new Fiat Doplo
The Bug is one of these cars, who was build such a long time..,
Designt in 30tes from Ferdinand Porsche for Hitler Germany, and build until the late 80tes in Mexico..

But i would prefer a 911 from Porsche to a Bug.. :)

Love old Beetles.  :)

My best friend in Med School drove a 1962 lowback Beetle.  Still 6V system.  My wife had 2 beetles and a microbus.   My first VW was an 86 GTI, although I really wanted a late 70's Scirocco.  We've owned 2 Jettas, a Cabrio (still have it) and a Tiguan (still have it).  My son's first car purchase:  Golf R.

Yeah, we're a VW family.

Do they have the new Scirocco's over there in the states? I've been drooling over them since they relaunched... I think I'd be happy with a Golf however...

Another VW fan here in the UK. I've never owned a classic like the OP's (which is frankly stunning) but have had 2 mk3 Gti's, a MK1 Gti convertible - limited edition CoCo Channel model (wife's car in truth), 2 Polo's, Mum has a Polo as well and currently we have a MK6 Gtd and a V6 Touareg. That's not to mention other VW group cars we have sampled over the years, Seat Ibiza and Skoda Octavia VRS 2.0t - epic car!
Love VW group vehicles.
Regards, Jon.

No, we don't have the new Scirocco  :(  The Corrado did not sell well here.

A car that symbolises peace, love etc.

VW Beetle designed to be the car of the people, by the leader of the country at the time, to his specifications

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen#1937.E2.80.931945:_People.27s_Car_project

There is a very good documentary series, by the BBC, presented by James May that is worth viewing called "James May's Cars of the People"
Kelly: "Daddy, what makes men cheat on women?
Al : "Women!"

Man that's clean.  You obviously do NOT live in a rust belt state.

That's not a 64 bumper, is it?

A few years ago there was the fashion of sticking a Porsche engine in a beetle.

These were fast!

The engine is 90% Boxster, and the bumpers are blade style VW. It is very fast out of the hole. I race it against BMW Mini Cooper "S" on our main road.

That is a very sweet, very clean car!

With a Boxter engine in it I'll bet it goes like stink.

When I lived on Vancouver Island there seemed to be no shortage of vintage VW Bugs and Buses...

I suppose you keep that well stored in Ontario for the winter...

I have a topic related question that is open to anyone who might nave knowledge about this.

How much US Dollars would a nice mostly stock project Bug go for?

Something I could wrench on with my daughter when she is old enough for that sort of thing.

These things depend largely on where you live and what you are looking for, but if n you are patient, willing to travel a bit and keep your eyes open I have heard of folks getting a nice project car for under $2k.

It all depends on how serious a project you want I suppose.  :-)

I bought my car in 1999 for $3500 Canadian. It was all original and had been well looked after. I removed the original engine, dropped the body 6", shaved handles, replaced the fuel tank, suspension, transmission, seats, Windows etc.....

Basically, replaced every fastener, hoses. Hard lines and then the Boxster. The car drives brand new with disc brakes on the front. I had to get it assessed in 2002 for insurance. It was assessed at $30000. At the largest VW show in North America, offers going to $33,000 were rejected. It becomes a labour of love and to part with it would be really tough. I would much rather hand it over to an appreciative enthusiast for free when I can no longer look after it. It was a wonderful experience working on it. It was in the magazine "VW Trends" so it was a big project.

Thanks for your interest.

Ok I will take it I guess.

Serious though thanks for the info and great pics, both you and Grant.

Oh almost forgot to add it is a good thing you like Bugs with that garage I would hate if you was into monster trucks lol.
