New Mora! C Andersson (Classic #2 size)....beat up but still tight and serviceable. A well loved Mora..filed, batoned with a hammer and used for many years!!!!!!!!

Below it is a 1950's Trygve Kverneland in SK-11 stainless.

C. Andersson  started knife making in 1890 and was sold to K. J. Eriksson in the early 1960's'
My abused C. Andersson is probably a 40's-50's knife based on the blade stamp.

An example from "Blade Blog"

Blade Blog (C. Andersson page)
http://thebladeblog-ulf.blogspot.com/2011/09/c-andersson-mora-knives.html

This knife amazes me. It has been thoroughly abused yet is solid and, when I whisked a small freehand micro bevel on it, sharp as a razor!!! I don't know if the temper is shot but it still takes an edge just fine. Sheath is in decent shape as well.

Really nice, wish I could get my hands on some better Scandinavian knives...

I added a Companion Black and Companion Heavy Duty to the collection this week.
They might sleep in the cheapy-box of my collection, but they are no less loved  :D

Carried that old C Andersson around the other day. I had put a new microbevel on it and it cuts like a razor!!!!  Wide blade, heavy and solid, I love it!  Will try to tote this one more often!

I like the look of that one. Unpretentious, but effective and reliable.

What makes you think the temper is shot? Don't forget they didn't chase the 60HRc threshold back then. 50ish Rockwell was the norm in the earlier days for ease of sharpening/steeling/stropping

Looks like it's been on the grinder at one time but I don't see color like the temper was burned so maybe it's ok. It really came back easy with a microbevel....the orig scandi grind is too damaged to fix with the tools/stones I have.

Carbide sharpener!!  >:D >:D

Or just something low grit. 220 sandpaper could work very well
On the other hand I love the rustic design of it. Exact reason why i chose a Mora #1 over other more popular models as my first

Actually, the edge came back with about 15 medium pressure passes on a fine grit, 6" Smith's diamond stone.

The Scout knife would be an awesome personal neck knife but the other one...it's a wee little blade.

Heard back from Mora! I had asked for info on three recent Moras in my collection.

 :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Here's what they sent me....my Ref pic and their ID.

From a 1960 leaflet

From a 1960 leaflet

From the 2000 catalogue

This is the KJE No 1710. The knife previously had a neutral brown leather sheath, but eventionally inherited the sheath from KJE No 1700 which probably was the only knife model kept from the FM Mattsson assortment (FMM No 650).
We bought the already closed down knife manufacturing from FM Mattsson in 1962. They produced knives between 1917-1961. Your sample was probably produced sometime between 1990-2005.

Couple Of Moras in today.

KJ Eriksson 1701 (shown above in the 2000 catalog page) as made for Jonsered. Blade and box are labeled "Jonsered Turbo" so perhaps this was a promotional gift supplied with a Jonsered Chainsaw purchase (with their patented "Turbo" intake system).  The box also bears the KJE trademark. It has a 5.5 inch blade and a sculpted grip that has to felt to be believed...fits the hand perfectly. The sheath is embossed with the Swedish Heraldic Lion bearing a sword.

The smaller knife is a Carl Andersson sheath knife with a wide 4.5 inch blade and steel buttcap. It has the old MO(CA)RA blade stamp. (see attached)

In the background is my CT34 125th Anniversary Vic.
