Thanks for posting that!  I couldn't remember where I heard about the full tangs.  I think it was mentioned in another forum based on the FB notice now that you posted it!  :)

Hope that they wont cost $100 for one though!  LOL

They have released a mysterious pic that seems to show a tang coming out of the top of a knife handle.
They say more news will come soon.

Now that's interesting.  Given that it looks to be fully enclosed then it rather knocks two of my potential issues off.  Now we just need to know how much it'll cost. :D

Yes. To me it looks like there is somekind of inlay in the handle. Different texture or something.
So I wont be surprised if is in the same price range as the bushcraft black.

Have you guys ever had an issue with them being rat tail? The one I got hooked up with feels bulletproof even when hacking down things a saw should do.

Never.  Reading about this on the net has people driving them into trees and then standing on them...I think the guy said he weighed 165lbs. Those were older stories, probably from when they were laminated and full length tangs on the classic models like these.

You will see a broken one posted every great once in a while, but the new synthetic handle ones have better tangs and are amazingly strong from everything I've read...

I've broken a few by looking at them sideways. I wouldn't hack, baton, drive them into trees etc at all. YMMV.

You don't know your own claw strength.....   ok:   ;)

I'm not that gentle on them either. Scared the smurf out of me when the first one broke. Thought I might have cut myself real decent like.

Boning out a pig, gave a slight twist to separate it as I pulled it through and ping!
Cutting through a fish, used my spare hand to hit my knife hand for added pressure and ping!
Gets returned with a slight bend, should be able to tweak that out, ping!

Z, were they breaking at the tip, mid blade or at the handle/blade transition?

So a full tang would not really help?
Have you tried the Mora robust? It has a thicker blade.

+1 Or a Bushcraft Black.  Don't see that one ever snapping under heavy use.

Interesting.  As the other are implying, I think, it sounds like it might be the lateral torque that's caused the failures. Sound fair?

Another knife to look out for might be the Hultafors Heavy Duty.  I've had a play with them a couple of times and though they seemed good, plus Smashie swears by them.  Even cheaper than Mora knives as a added bonus.

I just bought a Hultafors craftmans knife for $5. I havent had much time to play with it, but I think the blade is slightly thicker than on a Mora 511. Ill check tomorrow.

Yeah completely fair.
Apart from when straightening the blade I wasn't expecting the others to break.
I wasn't trying to wail on Mora but there was talk of driving them into trees and standing on them, I wouldn't recommend doing that.

I don't want to offend anyone here but IMO that first video is pretty bad, especially the bs fake standing on the blade part.
The music was okay though.
Second video, like I said, bends one way and not back the other.
Look how little effort it took to break it.
As I didn't make the initial bend I don't personally know how far it goes and I'm not about to waste a good blade to find out.

None taken!   It was Mors Kochanski that originated the test in his Bushcraft book and there is video of him doing it somewhere. It is a real test that was done using the older Moras of probably 25-30 years ago. The way I first posted about it seemed like I was just pulling that test out of my backside so I just posted the first vid I found.  It was a halfa$$ed video search on my part but I've some smurfy health issues going on right now....

I just checked, and the Hultafors craftsman does have a thicker blade than the Mora 511.
Mora 511 is the red one, Hultafors the orange one.

(Bottom pic: hultafors on top)

According to what I can find online, the 511 has a 2mm blade and the craftsman a 2,5mm blade.

Oh. And I would not recomend standing on a mora either.
