Now that's one I'm much more tempted by. :tu:

I'm with Gareth on being attracted to that one

It is very nice looking!!!

I've been reading widely on the Garberg and have a crazy, sneaking worry that after years of requests by enthusiasts for a full tang Mora, sales won't justify the development/tooling costs and it will be like the Triflex and go away after a short time. Hope I'm wrong because based on what folks say who actually have one, it looks to be a really great a knife and a credit to Mora. You guys have been very fair but on some sites, the comments are angry with many acting if Mora somehow let everybody down by charging so much.  It's crazy and kinda sad because many of the people complaining, proudly post $100-150+ knives elsewhere on the site...it's like how dare Mora make something exceptional, like we asked for and then not charge 17 bucks for it like they always do.   Maybe if Mora comes out with a carbon version people will think different.

Rant off...

I have never used a 2000 but have read that you have to be careful with the tip as it's more fragile than the other blade configurations but generally folks like the 2000 with the handle getting top marks....the new one has the Garberg handle so we will see how it goes. I think it's probably a great knife. And yeah, I want some of the little ones as well...

Gaute gifted me one about a year ago and it can take a lickin and will ask for more. Very comfortable in the hand and I have not noticed any hot spots in prolonged use. While I prefer high carbon blades over stainless steel for my fixed blades, It won't disappoint you how easy it is to sharpen and how long it keeps a good edge. It's also great for heavy and fine task and it's blade shape is great for game processing. I have taken it camping and out to the bush to practice some of my bushcrafting skills as my only blade, it will process fire wood to carving a spoon or fork. Generally, I like having my Hawk, multi and a fixed blade when I got out, but if I had to do a one tool option, I would have no problems just taking a Mora 2000.

I agree with Nate. Its a good knife. Very popular with hunters here.
Not recomended for batoning, as it has a fairly short tang.

I don't use a fixed blade probably as much as most of you but Mora is on the top of my list as a user blade as well :tu: I really like the couple that I have and they are really good quality and I always find it hard to believe that they are as cheap pricewise as they are

It's not just about going crazy over the price. Sure it's a bit much, but then again every knife in that price range is a bit much when you have severely limited funds.
What ticks me off, and I'm one of those guys who isn't crazy about Mora knives or the scandi grind, is that if you slap some other name on a partial tang or rat tail tang, scandi knife it's ok to charge that higher price.
I've seen a full tang Mora #2 custom clone go for $235. Lapin, Helle, Kauhavan, Enzo, Kellam all make excellent knives but they are all higher priced and will often be outperformed in most tasks by a Mora. And don't get me started on the $400+ bushlore clones that would be better served by different grinds which was proven by Kyley Harris and Cliff Stamp.

The question I'd ask those people is would they care if Marttiini or Hultafors did the same thing, would they care enough to go on a virtual rampage?

For me the Mora #1 is working out quite well and it's forcing me to be a smarter user. Now if I wanted a higher priced upgrade I'd probably go with something like the American knife company Forest since that is what I know how to use now.

Well said buddy!    In most folks minds, Mora means cheap and even though it's a knife that was designed and built from the ground up to compete with F-1's, Enzo's etc., the Garberg is way overpriced. Crazy logic. I'm a Mora fanboy, clearly, and think a Classic 1 or 2, a 510 or a Companion HD is probably all the knife most folks (me included) will ever need because they are so excellent in design and execution. As I read one guy say about the Garberg, "Mora is a victim of their own success"...I tend to agree.

I'm done griping, it wasn't directed at you guys. Sorry.

BTW styx, you have no idea how much I admire those AKC Forest knives!!!!   :ahhh  :dd: :dd: :dd: :dd: An awesome woods companion being a cheaper, better thought out Skookum Bush Knife (IMO)!!!  I even like the way they use the rare earth magnet as a extra retention device.  :2tu:

I havent really read much about the Garberg elsewhere so I havent read much complaining on the price other than the little that has been here.

I bet however, that if Mora had made the Garberg under a different name, there wouldnt have been much complaining about the price.
Everyone would complain about the price of a luxurious unusually expensive Toyota, but an expencive Lexus is accepted.

As for the No1 I prefer the older models with wider blades, 90degree spine and tang going through the handle.  They are great working knives, very comfortable in the hand. :tu:

Yup AKC have some amazing things going for it. Big selling point for me is that their Forest line is thinner than the Bushcrafter models made by BRKT and Black jack knives.

Now while I do want to try out an F1, it also has it detractors. Mostly the size of the handle. Garberg doesn't seem to have that problem. And for a short blade that thickness again can be a bit problematic, at least in my use. That's the 1 of the 2 reasons why I'm looking to get rid of my TOPS (other being that 1095 and I don't get along).

so anyone got experience with Terävä Jääkäripuukko ?

No, but I really like the look of those and their design philosophy!

4mm thick blade!  I'd definitely like to have a good look at one.

without a sheath they are 40 euros, just good luck finding 'em in stock.
and the philosophy is that they are one store's version of J.P. Peltonen Sissipuukko because of it's limited availability. at least from what i understand

and links to both versions

Solving problems you didn't know you had in the most obscure way possible

"And now, it's time to hand this over to our tame race axe driver. Some say, he can live in the forest for six months at a time without food, and he knows of a secret tribe of only women where he is their God. All we know is, he's call the Styx!" - TazzieRob
