Small tinker is nice but I don't really see any disadvantage in carrying the full size version. You get a better large blade and slightly beefier openers for a very small increase in size and weight (less than 10g).

That said, I'll stick my little tinker in my pocket for the next week and see how I get on.

This is where I am at with this also.

If the Small Tink was still in production then what the heck but not at a increased price for sure.

Right?

Course I don't need any of these since everything is covered with my Wave or Little Boy and Explorer or Yeoman. Wont let that stop me though.

I like the small Tinker a lot, cute little thing.

>:D But for it to be ideal you would need to change the Philips for a corkscrew and the small blade to a nailfile   >:D
That's an awesome looking Tinker , Have not seen one like that before

I'll third that notion

I'm tempted to the idea of putting a Phillips into a Sportsman

I like the Tinker Small, just like I like all the 84s. They aren't a lot smaller than the 91s, but small enough that they can get under asinine "weapons" policies sometimes, never mind that you can beat someone to death with a good quality keyboard, or at least beat them into submission and garrote them with the cable. And because it's shorter, you can't get quite as much leverage on it, so it is harder for tips to get snapped. A custom sheath holding a Tinker Small and a pair of pliers would be a great set. Such a sheath that puts them with a good fixed blade, I can see it with some serious interest in many circles.

Sadly, I need scissors more than saving a quarter inch, and while I do have a Salesman in my collection, along with a couple Golfers and a Climber Small, they are without a keyring. No keyring, I can't put it on the hanger that I secure my Compact with, which is a no go with a knife that hasn't been made in that long a time.

Has anyone ever asked how many signatures would be needed on a petition to bring back 84mm scissors?

I sent Victorinox a message a week or so ago asking about producing an 84mm again with scissors.  They responded that they would forward the request on to the product development team.  Perhaps if they got more requests, they might consider it.

Even if they only did a special annual run of 84mm's that haven't been produced in a long time.  That would be nice.  Perhaps a 2015 special run and then a 2016 special run.

I'm also wondering what effect the absorption of Wenger and the 85mm line of products might have on the 84mm.  The Cadet Alox is popular enough it will probably be OK, but would they decide to discontinue other 84mm's for the Wenger line?

While the Sportsman takes the edge IMO I do still have a lot of time for the Tinker Small.

 :tu:

Gareth, I'm in total agreement, though an 84mm Golfer trumps even the Sportsman.  I rotate all three for EDC.

Agreed kirk13...I did that mod to both a Waiter (now Apprentice) and the Sportsman.  They turned out well...

I got a small Tinker (again) several weeks ago.  I'm a huge fan of the 91mm Tinker, but the 84mm hasn't seen much pocket time.  I've gotta change that....

I didn't even realise that this thread existed until I found it in the list of Clubs. Because the 84mm SAKs are so great I'm going to breathe life back into this one. Carrying my Tinker Small today with my Wave.
