I think he sold it but that might have been another, or I could just have dreamt it all, that happens :)

I've disabled the lock but that leaves a bit of a half arsed tool unless I can increase the snap :(   I've been reading up on spring steels today Not got me very far though, the stuff I've read seems to suggest that unless you've all the right techno widgets getting the steel to do just what you want isn't really doable.  I'd so love that to be wrong!  I've other ideas, so we'll see.  I'm certainly not making any promises though.

I know a little bit about tempering, and I don't envy you your task mate :o

I think the main problem as you say will be to stop the tool's from just flopping about :(

I seem to recall Bob and I think Spooney having a length chat about springs a long time ago , might be worth droping them a pm :)

Micky, didn't you and your Uncle look at the OHT  with the intention of doing something similar. Found the spring was too weak or something like that.

He's not actually my uncle :D,(his nickname is Unka Colin :)) and yeah we did and we found it impossibe to make it a genuine slippie as the back springs were far too weak to hold the blade open (being lighted to facilitate OH) but the original 111mm have got just about strong enough springs to turn them into decent slippies :)

I think Dave's (SporK) modded some 111mm knives to do away with the lock.
And if the blades were under 3" we'd be well away.  <measures blade>  Actually it wouldn't look that daft with a slightly shortened blade.  Ooh, something else to have a play with :D

I have a feeling he did it for PWork and he used a liner lock scale to replace a side lock scale, or something like that. I may of course be talking rubbish (it has been known)

That sounds about right (not the talking rubbish bit).  I've just had a rummage through my scrap box and found a very distressed looking Outrider, the blade's seen a hard life and some vicious sharpening attempts, so I'll have no qualms in butchering it a bit further  >:D   I'm not sure there's any great advantage to having a non-locking, shortened 111mm Vic. to just carrying a 93mm knife but I think I'll have a play, just because :)

The shortened 111 would still be a bit longer than a 93.  108's were just under the wire for you, so you shouldn't have to shorten very much.

Hi Dunc,

Mine is still on back-order (fingers crossed) and last time I looked they were no longer advertising it. Yes, it was the RS model.

Regards
