I need a real SAK
on: January 18, 2015, 01:29:05 AM
So I need a few recommendations, I don't have any SAKs other than 58s. I'd prefer to stay thinish to start to make it easy to toss in the coin pocket of my jeans. I was looking at the small tinker, any other ideas?

The Hiker is the Tinker with the woodsaw added.  If you need scizzors then super tinker.  If you like pliers and scizzors the deluxe tinker

Or all that  except pliers and you get a fieldmaster.

The pic won't show, I'm guess it's your modded compact? I'd love alox, but I don't have a ton of cash. I think I would go with a farmer first though.

I was trying to keep it cheapish to start, because after a while I'll likely try my hand at wood scales again and don't want to get something I'll hesitate to pop apart you know? Thanks for the help, you must be sick! :salute:

If you prefer the phillips to the corkscrew, and want to stay on the thinner side, I'd say the Tinker or Super Tinker at the most if you want scissors.

Scissors aren't a huge deal as the 58s work well for me. I don't do a ton of cutting that can't be done just as well with a blade. I really would love the metal file, but that seems to be a rather elusive implement that doesn't come on many cheaper options.

Yeah, I like the metal file too.  Too bad you couldn't track down a Trail Guide, but that has the corkscrew I believe.  I'm not sure what model, if any, has the metal file with phillips instead of corkscrew

I like my Sidekick with some jaws . Still looking like small tinker is one of the better options. Probably order whatever I settle on Tuesday.

Not that much difference in carrying between a small tinker and a 91mm Tinker. Worth considering just going with the full sized one imo.

I was thinking about that, but since it certainly won't be my main blade. I was leaning towards the smaller one for the sake of being easier to toss in the small pocket

Negative. Minichamp is about as wide as it is long. And I never really use any of its screwdriving options despite them being stronger than thought. I want something with a little more substance that could stand alone and be competent, but will also compliment one of my MTs well.

Yeah thats what I am saying with a 91mm.

Do have to admit I am curious to try a Cadet sized SAK too.
