Well, if we're lucky, *fingers crossed*, this tool may be in our hands soon. The SOG website still says a release date of September 08, and with that being tomorrow, the Powerlock may finally be ours!

Of course, hopefully that wire stripper implement will be available separate too. Then I will have to decide between powerlock with that or the powercut. I know, I'll have to get both.

So excited.

Me too I guess, although I'm prepared to be disappointed with a further postponement. (hope not!)

I think that if you have a couple of 100 bucks that Bob can make you one.

The problems could have been overcome easily it seems. :-\

Maybe someday Leatherman or Gerber will recognize the demand and produce their own version.

I just do not understand why they could not just use a tool steel plier head with stainless steel everything else.  That would have made the tool a reality.

Today's Dirty Dozen Thread Necro is this one- our first look at the most anticipated multitool there never was, the SOG PowerCut.  The funny thing was, SOG couldn't make one, but BOB, I mean Bob could!

The issue with these was the cast plier head wasn't as tough as SOG wanted it to be, so Bob, as a machinist, bought himself a set of machined cutters, cut the handles off, welded some extra metal on so there was enough space to drill some holes, and made a PowerCut himself, which the folks at SOG ended up drooling over at the next SHOT Show!  :D

Where the manufacturers fail, Multitool.org begins!   >:D

Seriously, a drop-forged D2 plier head similar to that tool Klein recently put out (Electrician Hybrid) I think would do well.  Aside from D2 (used on a lot of hand tools, namely wrenches), I don't think there is a stainless (or close to it, like D2) blade steel that's also suitable for stuff like pliers.

Given SOG's recent manufacturing issues with their tools, I think I would rather see the PowerCut stay dead, at least until SOG sorts some things out.

Then I would love to see it in the acid washed finish that the Power Access and Power Access Deluxe came in.  :D

Yeah, what Bob did was a real work of art!

I begged him to make more but he says the labor involved would be very prohibitive.

It would have been nice if SOG had been able to come out with that.  I know it would have been a hit with tradesmen.  The next logical step after the PowerCut  might have been a pruner head Power Lock. I'd have bought one of those. :tu:

I did not know Gerber made one.

That's an MP600 Cable Cutter.  Be aware, it is only for cutting soft copper (anything harder will damage the cutting surfaces).

Gerber made quite a few different heads for MP600's, and then made the Evolution 650.  It was based on MP600 handles with some changes which allowed you to quickly swap to different heads.

Only soft copper? That's no good. Why would anyone carry this instead of a proper cutter and another MT?
