Who was in the Boy Scouts?
on: July 18, 2008, 06:17:20 PM
I was. Eagle Scout 1993.

Cub Scout, Weblos, Boy Scouts, Explorer Scouts, and Assistant Scoutmaster for a stint.

I do miss camping out every month. Don't thing the Target foot can take the long hikes anymore though.

I was Life when I left in 1987.  Cub Scout, Webelos, Boy Scouts, Explorer Scouts, Senior Patrol Leader and Order of the Arrow.  I miss the frequent campouts too.  :(  I also regret that I didn't complete my Eagle project.  The scoutmasters told me I would, but I didn't believe them.  I was too interested in girls at the time to care.

Cubs, Scouts, and then Venturers. Venturers really impacted my life, and the lives of my friends, due to a really great leader. Don't know where we all would have wound up without him.

I was. Eagle Scout 1993.

Cub Scouts then Boy Scouts where I attained the rank of Star.  Met the requirements for Life but dropped out before attaining that rank - I do regret dropping out of Scouts as early as I did.

I liked the camraderie of the 20-mile day hikes, the weekend camping trips, and especially liked the week-long Boy Scout Camp in the summer.

Boy Scouts does offer training in basic morality, character development, and leadership skills.

Beyond that, the practical stuff Boy Scouts teaches is at least as important.

I think it's good for all boys to learn basic skills such as camping and woodcraft, swimming and lifesaving, first aid, rowing and canoeing, rifle shooting, archery, etc.

I think the scouting experience can vary a lot. First, it varies depending upon which age levels you participated in (scouts, cubs, venturers, etc.). But more so, I found it varied a lot from troop to troop.

At some of the larger jamborees, I remember meeting troops from around the world and there was a lot of variety in how everyone did things, and in what they did as well. There were large formal troops that did all the official activities, and there were very small close knit groups who had all kinds of whacky adventures. And then there is the group dynamic as well, with all types of different leaders and personalities.

Ah, I hadn't thought about those times in years. Man, those were fun times.  :)

Our troop was very rowdy. We got kicked out of summer camp once for setting a tractor tire and haybale on fire, we took a light off a runway at an airport. Thank god it was pre-911. We peed on the tents of scouts we didn't like, harassed other troops by putting their tents on top of buildings (latrine).

Good times. We were always put back in line by our scoutmaster with the canoe paddle.

We also played a sadistic game called hot butter and blue beans. It was like capture the flag but instead if you caught someone behind the lines you beat him with your scout belt until he was behind the rocks called the safe zone.

I wasn't but I did have the Scout Handbook and read it diligently. I tried to act like a Scout but since I was pretty much a loner(still am to some degree) I didn't want to hang out with other kids too much.

I made Eagle back in 2002. I had my final board of review in December, just 2 months after I turned 14 (I was 13 when I did my Eagle project). Best thing I ever did.

Started when I was 8 and still a member, I’m 26 now. Was very active until September 2001 when I went into the army, butt then adulthood  and all that follows started and now I get 2 or 3 trips a year. I miss going on trips every other weekend and all the fun we had.

I had a crush on a girl scout leader once. Lasted forever, nothing came out of it (duh). Later, my friend asked me why I haven't joined, to which my reaction was "you can join the scouts?" Haven't seen her since high school.

Very sad.

Yeas, 2 and both in Norway. The first was in 1994 at a place called Solør, was about 8000 people there. The 2 was in 1998 at the west coast of Norway in Jæren.

I was just 1 year to young to go at the jamboree in 1990, butt after everybody got back I was a little glad I didn’t go, it was raining like mad the hole week and the field they lived in was just mud.

I was in boy scouts. I had a lot of fun. Then our leader retired and this really lame lady took over. She was the kind who would scream if she saw a bee 100 miles away and the troop stopped doing fun stuff because of her. Me and many other quit out of boredom.
