Scouting is probably a little different around the world, I was in Scout for 3+ years and then move onto being Venture Scout(which probably similar to the Eagle Scout I read on various forums).  Much like Coloswiss, I think Scouting give me the gear bug and still live by that motto to this day.

Looks like I am the exception to the rule. I was never interested in scouting.

Boy Scouts (of Canada). All the men in my family were Scouts, Dad was my Scouter as well. All the girls were Girl Guides too. It was a big deal in my family. Fantastic experience, loved it.

I was/am a scout. Received Eagle on 1/12/12 and stayed to be an assistant scoutmaster.

Wish I was more active but the whole "college life job money" thing got in the way.

2012 was also the 100 year anniversary of Eagle Scouts so I received a limited edition patch.

I'm a Queen's Venturer. It's even on my CV.

When my tiny mountain forest town had its Scouting Renaissance, my Dad wound up as our Venturer (and later Rover) leader. We learned some badass wilderness skills, you guys.

YMCA (here that is pretty much the same, just with a more Christian theme, but we also get military funding for the health and training).

As a kit I was Scout & Pioneer
As a young adult I got Pioneer and Hiking/Survival instructor.

We used to have an Emergency Box (It was a tin box maybe 20x10x5 cm, I have to check if mine is till at my parents). In there was everything from first-aid, fire-making, shelter building etc. That was pretty awesome. Myself, I have started building kits before that though, as I got traumatized by our national alert.

It says: Always, everything with you.

It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

I put Scouting on my resume and it got respect. The badass nature of my description of it when I was asked got some raised eyebrows. I also spent time in northern Ontario planting trees and such, dealing with bears, portages and extreme weather, it's the kind of work that scares many interviewers. Good, my hiring rate was great. I'm self-employed now so there's no one to impress but myself.

Apart from the (gravel) street cred, I teach now, so reaching the peak of Scouting awards -- not to mention all the volunteer cub leader hours -- looks pretty good.
