Yup, the blade did change color while he was welding it.

Looks cool though and quite a display piece.

I guess when you start welding the temper is already screwed up anyway.

He mentions in the video description on youtube that it's more a proof of concept than something he'll use, I assume he'll be more careful or send it back to heattreatment if he makes it for real :P

Putting aside the fact he killed the blade with the heat he put into it ...

Put a tangless blade on a hollow handle filled with survival kit:
General consensus = bad idea, weak blade

Put a tangless blade on a shoe which clips to a Leatherman MUT:
General consensus = amazing idea

I must be missing something

:D Sorry mate, still not getting it.

It's a cunning bit of widgetry, and a fun "look what I made" project, but not as an actual tool. Just buy a bloody Mora.  ::)

I kinda figured it was obvious that it is useless as an actual tool and we were all just saying it looks cool.  :D

I figured I wouldn't be the only person that thought that way, but I don't assume things like that are obvious. There are many commercial offerings in the big world which are just as useless, if not more so, and people still buy them expecting them to work :D

Bayonet for a MUT...I want.:2tu:

Anyone who thinks that mount will be weak needs to talk to a vet who has stuck something/someone with their bayonet. Because that design is similar to what has been used for about 125 years or more. I instantly recognized the slot and lock design from my ww2 mauser just with a flip tab lock instead of a push button. Remember most only mount at the 1 point on the pommel, so this just omitting the grip and mounting to the guard perpendicularly rather than parallel. The weak point would probably be the MUT itself provided he gets that blade re-heat treated.
Wobble is probably going to be the real issue when it comes to usability.

That's flipping awesome from any standpoint IMO. The amount of tools, time, and knowledge to do something like that blows me away.

I'll have to take your word for that. I've never used a bayonet, and most likely never will. However, I also don't tend to have need or desire to use my knives in a thrusting fashion. From a gardening, food prep, rope cutting, DIY, wood processing, and all round general cutting implement perspective, I stick to my earlier views.  :salute:

Ah. Good catch :D

I do feel like the MUT attachment is a little less eye-catching to the general public. Yeah its a bigger knife with a tactical handle. But it's not a knife with a hand holding an MT out of your pocket.....

Then again I don't see either one being a pocket carry or sheath carry EDC.....
