How will you deal with the lack of an awl and file?

I carry a old wore out maxpedition organizer full of other tools and the pst I bought to work Monday is still in my coat.

I'll get by.

I'm more picky in the summer time when I'm trying to carry as light a edc as i think I'll need. Then it matters and hopefully I'll have a good setup based around the mut by then.

Things that come to mind are a custom SAK or LM Surge file and perhaps you can live without an awl

Uh-oh! Plowing snow all to often results in lost multitools. Stash your MUT Joel  :pok: :D

I'm keeping clipped tight to my jeans pocket under my bibs.  It should be fine.

Thanks for the reminder.

That's all I need it to lose a 100$+ tool right now

Little Boy wanted me to compose a strongly worded email about MT abuse. Says he still has nightmares about snow and ice.

I had my Maxpedition organizer out the other day and he was not pleased.

Sorry for the lack of updates but I've been doing some boring crap.

Cleaning , painting repeat.

I did get a few pics when I was fixing on some cabinet doors/drawers.

Scraping the former owners lovely yellow and pink paint off from a, few doors after there painting.

Mr Mut lacks a awl but it's pointy blade makes a ok starter hole for screws.

And like every day I've had the pleasure of his company at work
he opened a bunch of packages.

I'm starting to trust this guy after working together, a little bit

Been away from around the house work for a while now so I forgot this often used reason to have an awl.

This helps with my custom SAK theory crafting.

Might need to tell your boss that MTO updates do not wait for grunt work. He needs to find you some jobs that can be assisted by a MT so we can have more constant updates.

I Bet that scraper can be modded or exchanged for an awl. That just leaves the file

The scraper is a ok awl for soft stuff.

I did buff and sharpen the scraper but I still plan of using it as one to scrap stuff off my blades and tools I don't want to scratch.

Somebody has got to do the hard part.

I like to work hard. I haven't seen the inside of a gym in like a decade or so. It keeps me in shape.
Also

It does take time but smurf it I got to have something to do to make time pass. I hate being at work with nothing to do

Ooh awl thoughts.

Im going to grind down the long torxs bit and make a awl/mini blade out of it.

I'm going to have a empty slot

do they make different long bits or is there just the two?

I could try cutting a file to fit in the slot but it would be really hard for me to make and keep its temper.

After enjoying the mut last week at work I think I'm taking the oht next week.

I won one from mto in the 5000 member contest

It's just about nib and it needs some use.

It's so nice I've had a hard time using it.

I just thought of another reason I didn't carry it. I hate it's sheath. The mut I just got came with a way nicer one I will carry it in.
I have issues.

I'm thinking about adding a sak to this topic.

A plastic one with a phillips .

Besides that I got a lot of thinking I'm going to do on the tools set.

I want to use this one sak at work most days.

For me it had been the opposite with being mainly cellidor.  Then I got back into Alox with my new MechaRogue ;)

Super Tinker , hiker, explorer, feildmaster, mountaineer mountaineer lite, ranger , or my favorite for the moment the outdoorsman http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Outdoorsman_Original

scissors, metal file,  is what I should look for.  The rest
Are just extras I probably will use.

Black handles are preferred.

I think I am going to start carrying a sak to abuse so I can try keep my multitool nicer. Sak s are way cheaper than most multitool s I carry

How will you carry it, sheath, coat pocket, pants pocket? Will make a difference in how big it can be and be comfortable.

I won't be using it as a hammer like another reviewer would lol

Speaking of hammer, Joel.  What are your thoughts on the MUT hammer?  Is it at all useful?  Do you think a hammer on a medium duty (the new Signal) has any real value to a multi tool?

Ranger all day long, unless you can score a Astronaut since I do not imagine you need the CS to often on the job.

Of course if you can handle the little bigger size a Craftsmans pliers could be put to use in your line of work I bet.

Now the one I like the best the Explorer does not have a file but does have the oh so sweet inline Phillips.

You could always just get a SC and have it all.

It is also possible that I over think this kinda stuff.

Join the club, we have the cookies.

If it was just what SAK to carry it would be easier. But if I carry say the Rebar I need scissors the most but if I carry a Skeletool then I need stuff completely different.

Then of course it depends on what I have planned for the day. Like a lazy Sunday for example. Heaven forbid I need something and do not have it cause I picked the wrong combo or got lazy and did not want to carry the right tool. Smurfs me off.
