Finallly bought a SWISSTOOL
on: July 21, 2008, 02:17:11 AM
Its been a long time hearing them all the hooplas about this swisstool, so finally I found a swisstool 1999 model thats in good condition, relatively new and a good deal (well it least in our country) I bought it  :multi:
Sorry picture will follow  :D
Whats the initial verdic? I can now understand whats the HOOPLA is all about! IT IS REALLY VERY WELL ENGENIREED! You have to play with it to see the detail engenired in the tool.
Very thigh tolerances, tool are not loose but are not too thight either. Outside placement of tools makes very good sense but I miss the one-hand opening of blades, thinking about modifing the blade putting a button for one-hand opening but blade placement is on the other side so if you are a leafty you could modify for one-hand opening.
Another observation on other threads is the blade play, yes there is blade play but its very minimal and will not bother majority of multitool users.
The only concern I have is the spring in the locking machenism, I am not a fan of springs to me they are the weakest link but on the swisstool only time will tell.
Still like the Leatherman design but I like the Victorinox's quality better.

I agree that the reliance on springs is a bit troubling, but I do love my Swisstool. It's very addicting to be able to get to the tools without that "open the handles, find the tool, close the clumps, lock the tool, close the handles." I think the Swisstool seems more like a fine watch than a tool.

Glad you like it, Bill.

Yeah, the SwissTool is a fine tool.. If it had one hand opening blades I would maybe even EDC it! The other thing I didn't like is the slotted drivers. I squared them up on a grinder and they work very well now..

Yup I agree with you after EDCing the charge and the SURGE, you kinda miss the onehand opening which to me is very essential. Wonder why Vic haven't put maybe a thumb stud for onehand opening of their swisstool line.
I like the shiney finish of the Swisstool it doubles as a mirror, my wife keeps borrowing it to use as mirror  :D

Thats my next target tool to get  :D

Congrats Dman, it looks new!

looking at your MT-Star picture if you had one or two smaller MTs
juice, squirt like, you'd have the perfect compliment of MTs I think,
not too many, not too little, just right and some of the best ones ever! :salute:

I went to a car accident rescue tonight with the fire brigade and used my swisstool rs to cut seatbelts, remove the battery terminals and cut the windshield seal. It worked perfectly in every function and saved a lot of time looking for tools when they were all on my hip. It's the mutitool that gives total satisfaction. (By the way the occupants, a lady and two kids were okay after we freed them from the vehicle)
