Jeans/Denim Pocket Sheath DIY
on: February 12, 2015, 02:48:16 AM
I have been wanting to make this for a while now.  I haven't seen one and figured it would make an excellent sheath since denim is so long lasting.

I took a pair of child's jeans and cut the back pocket off.  I tried to stay as close to the stitching as possible and cut up towards the belt loop seam.

I folded the pocket in half and then hand sewed it together.  It is the perfect size for a full size MT and bit kit ( 2 ) plus a PW2.  I am going to use it for my fire piston gear.

I in no way am trying to take credit for this idea but I haven't seen it nor one posted here.  If you have made one then I apologize, again I just haven't seen it.  I'm not trying to profit anyway this was made for me by me.

Enjoy

My fire piston and fire stuff.
The sheath as you can see has a center space that easily fits my fire piston and because the pocket is folded in half the sheath has a front and back pocket.

No I made it to put in a pack or simply in my pocket.  A way to carry my fire making stuff.  I guess with some more creativity it can be made to go onto a belt.

I have often wondered why someone hasn't made a Jeans/Denim sheath .

The material wears so great and is darn near bullet proof.  Heck I know we all have some old jeans in our closets.

Years ago I did something similar. Basically just separating my pocket into two sections. One section for my Swisstool and the other for whatever else. It worked well, but the only issue was if you go to high with the stitch you cannot get your hand into the pocket. Very basic, but effective.

Great idea.

You could make sure you had a wallet the correct size for the remaining space and be all set.

As you can see my sewing is on par with a one handed, a one finger man with an eye patch.

I used to do that as well, but when I moved I was in the (get rid of crap) mode and threw them out. Looks like I will probably start saving them again.  :tu:

I did it to my left front pocket not the back. It would work on the back i'm sure. Might look weird though.  :D

Thanks,

This pocket is from a childs pair of jeans so snag your kids or friends kids old jeans.  No shortage of jeans which is a great thing.  I use the rest of the jean material for char cloth, AWESOM stuff btw.

Just be sure they're not still wearing the jeans when you start.
