Awl/reamer
on: February 12, 2015, 09:57:58 PM
I'm interested to find out whether anyone has actually used the awl on the back of an sak to sew anything, how well it worked and if there are any pics?I seem to think an inline awl such as on the alox models would be more effective, but no hole for thread. I think a 111mm Outrider with an inline awl with a hole would be my grail sak.

Anyhow, any stories or pics?

I don't use the awl for sewing and doubt I ever would, but I sharpened the awl on my Tinker and use it a lot making holes as a screw starter. It can be useful, but doubt for sewing. Once had to suture myself while on a long backpacking trip - but NOT with the SAK awl !

I love the wear on that old cross . interesting use for the awl! I had to bend a pin from a car diagnosis tool straight the other day.The awl was perfect because of the 'lip' on the side stopped it slipping.
