Cooked on the grill, had one slight rain while doing so too, yet it poured as soon as we came in! At least it's cooling the grill off, now just got to wait till it stops before I can bring the grill in..

Good question - best you sort that out.  :pok:

You realize that of the recent posts, only my pics are NZ?

BCNZ's pics (Canada) are amazing. :dd:

NZ is like many places around the world but all rolled together in one compact parcel.  :salute:

Haven't been able to do anything outside lately due to being a little under the weather and rain. I just got out to the garage to finish adjusting the brakes on my bicycle.

They chomped off a few bits of foam from the roof racks but otherwise left my vehicle alone.
A couple rows down they completely destroyed a sunroof on a rental van, the guy was cussing them out hard.

Went on a 5 mile hike.  I wanted to explore some local trails to see how well maintained the mountain bike paths were.  Also I wanted to see how challenging they were.  Here is a snapshot of the gear I packed.  The Swisschamp lives in a SOS sheath and the Squirt rode in my pocket.
I didn't take many pictures as the day was warm and we ascended and descended quite a lot.  We pretty much trail power walked.

Last weekend we made a break, camped at a local dam and caught a few fish......very relaxing.

The weekend before......not so much.

I've been extremely busy at work with a new software system we're busy implementing, we hosted 2 consultants, one from South Africa and the other all the way from India.

The South African lady wanted to do a local hike during the weekend, we discussed the options and settled on the 16km at Okapuka game ranch.
We used this trail as preparation for the Fish River hike, I explained in detail and reiterated that it is a tough trail....

Turns out I over-estimated her fitness greatly

The start is very tough, getting up in the mountains, that's where I should've pulled the plug.....

Once we were  up the going was a bit easier, I was worried about the pace, but soon after it was too late to turn around.

Long story short, going up the last hill on the way back and still about 4km from the start of the trail she passed out with heat exhaustion.......

She had the wrong clothes, not nearly enough water, and by the time I'd left her to get help she had the last of my "more than enough" water supply.

We were extremely lucky, just a few hundred meters up the trail I ran into one of the lodge's vehicles, first time ever, and they could give us a lift back,

She recovered quickly thankfully, but we both learned a valuable lesson  :salute:

Yeah, running out of water is not fun. I did it once, now I usually carry to much. I even distribute it in many smaller containers (0.5 l water bottles) rather than one big one so I don't loose it all at once. Even in my urban scenario EDC (as far as urban is an appropriate description of any place in my country. Even in our capital city (or should I call it a town?  :D) you are newer more than an hour away form the nearest forest.) there is a plastic bag that I mainly carry for storing electronics in case of rainy days. But it could be pressed in to a service as a water container. It's original purpose was to store samples of liquid for laboratory analysis so it should do just fine.  :D

Glad everything worked out for her.  I tend to not hike with people I don't know especially if I don't know their fitness level.  If I do entertain them I always check their gear at the trail head.  She got lucky, kinda irresponsible she didn't know her own level of fitness she could have put you in danger as well.
