Weather has been pretty cracking where I am, got out for a paddle today and for a change took some pictures - taken on a pretty basic phone which was inside a waterproof pouch so the quality isn't great  :)

More gardening

I've had to start chemical warfare on the butterfly eggs and caterpillars, they are decimating my cabbages, cauliflower and broccoli.  They ate all the leaves off my pak choi in one night   I should have netted them before the butterflies got to them.

On the plus side, after failing with beetroot and leeks, I dug over that bit and replanted beetroot and sprouts, and both have little shoots already. I guess the seeds I used last time were too old.

My mum also has stuff growing in my greenhouse and it turns out the cucumber plants she grew are in fact runner beans

It is, but it's been linked to Parkinson's Disease.  Banned in the UK, I believe.

Was supposed to be doing an overnight (and all the next day) ride starting last Friday.  Had a fairly smurfy week with little sleep, not many miles in my legs and a rubbish journey to the start so didn't begin the ride in the best of shape.  Started at 2230 on Friday and rode across Exmoor and the Quantocks (Devon and Somerset, in the SW of England) and made it to the 115km mark after about 6 hours on the bike.  Couldn't face the remainder of the ride (another 300km :o) so headed back to the start.  Got back about 0700 on Saturday morning, and have only just caught back up with my sleep nearly a week later. ::)

Got out for a few miles, mostly exploring the trail system.  Its very dry out so not a lot of greenery.  Fire season here in Cali so some trail systems are closed.

Yup rattlesnakes for sure.  Coyote evidence, scat was seen plus I've seen them in the very early morning.  Rabbits are also seen or heard in the brush.  Various birds, opossum, skunks, racoon, deer, and at one time very long ago Grizzly Bears.  Theres a vibrant animal population despite the encroachment of humans.  Theres still a sizable area now protected thankfully.

After going to the store and finding something and for a cheap price I made something for outdoors..

Our mailman walks these streets in some of the nastiest weather, so any time it’s above say 85deg(30c) I’ll stick a water bottle outside in a little bucket, only thing is we have like 3 diff ones, one female, so each walks diff speeds so timing is about a 2hr stretch, so I have to keep throwing ice in the bucket to keep it cold, so I’ve been after something a little thermal to keep it colder and won’t melt as fast, some people will just throw a bottle of water in the freezer and toss it in the mailbox, this way by the time they get to it, it should be thawed out and probably hot, Grant it, any waters better then non, but I hate warm water. So I found this at the store, also bought two of those gel ice packs, so they will take shape, just put them in and slide the water bottle in between, and being an ice pack normal ice won’t melt and leave a lot of water, this little cooler also has hooks so I could hang it from the box so they don’t have to toss the mail in and bend over to grab the water, and to top it off that concrete had been soaking up sunlight so I’m sure it melted the ice twice as fast so now it doesn’t have to sit on it!
What do you think?

We all went to the zoo, after that we went out for dinner to the spaghetti warehouse, the same place we had our wedding dinner(just not the same one) then you can see the two kids crashed on the ride home..
