But the can opener on the pioneer/soldier series makes a great phillips driver, unless the screw's really recessed :)

I haven't had too much luck with that.  :-\  I'd rather have a "proper" phillips.

Of course, the Swisstools have both the awl and the Phillips on the end.

Of course my other "concept SAK" is a essentially an "all-screw driver" SAK using all the current drivers available along with the bit driver from the cybertool. Is it feasible to put a back spring philips and corkscrew on the same knife?

I take a lot of stuff apart. I like my screwdrivers.

Yes, but... its a bit of a kludge with a lot of wasted space.  Here's a link to one to one of SporK60's rainy afternoon adventures ;)

Me, I went with the simpler option...

... the NKB DL CT  or Dinky Little CyberTool :)

I didn't know you made one of those! I can't count the number of times I posted that someone should do exactly that. Great minds think alike! :)

Now that I have actually seen one, I have one word: "alox".... Heh? Heh? Make it a little skinnier and you can use it to compliment any other SAK you might want to pocket carry. Like a "Porta-Layer".

I haven't had too much luck with that.  :-\  I'd rather have a "proper" phillips.

On smaller screws, my experience is the exact opposite. On my Explorer, I have started using the can opener philips head more than the actual inline philips.

The proper philips slips a lot more on smaller screws, because the very tip is squared off due to the way they are manufactured. The back-mounted philips don't have this problem and are normal philips heads, but you need more clearance because of their placement.

The can opener philips, on the other hand, has fits small philips perfectly and is also inline. It's no good for recessed screws though...

I think it was Terry (NutSAK) that said he used it like that a lot as well.  I just don't feel it works as well for me.

Perhaps more testing is in order.  :climber:

That has the phillips, but not the awl that is described.

Like you said, that specific awl is for the ALOX models only and there are no models in ALOX that include that specific phillips.

Perhaps it is because we all use the driver primarily for different types of work?

For example, I mainly work with small M3 and 6-32 screws for computers and electronics, etc. Those are the screws where the Vic inline philips tends to slip on me.

I became very used to using the can opener driver because of this, so I just use it all the time now. It did feel very weird at first, but it was primarily just a cognitive mismatch. :D

The slipping problem doesn't happen nearly as much when I use the inline driver on larger philips screws though, so I would likely prefer the inline philips now if I had been primarily dealing with larger screws all this time - especially if they were stiff too.

Different tools for different situations and people... :)
