Perhaps you only have one.  Perhaps you picked them up as souvenirs of your travels.  Perhaps you have special logo version?  Here are some I picked up at various locations.

  • Atlanta Olympics when the Olympic flame came through Laramie, Wyoming on a train in 1996.
  • Yellowstone from Yellowstone National Park.
  • Swiss Air.
  • Apple Computer, when visiting Apple in Cupertino.

My vintage Bijou (that actually says "Bijou")
The quality of the old 58s is far superior to the new.

Perhaps it's a Chinese "Year of the Tiger" edition?  Is it part of a series? Any ideas?

My two well used classics. I love the classic, and the 58mm SAK is my favorite pocket knife these days. Goes anywhere without raising any eyebrows, but does 98% of what I need in a day to day life.

Can't leave the house without my little SAK.

I have all the usual suspects and a couple of "less common" ones but these two are probably my favourites

A "58 Monster" with (almost) every tool available. Since found out I'm missing the Torx driver

and a MiniChamp Plus with a couple of extra tools

got a bit of a soft spot for my blue Alox Rambler too

You're welcome.

I use this little SAK so darn much, that I wanted to have a way to carry it on my keyring, but also have it quickly accessible without having to unhook something. The pouch works out so well by letting me just grab the ring on the knife and use that to pull it out of the pouch. Makes it very very convenient to carry and use. Once in a while the pouch gets a little lose, so I soak it in hot water before I go to bed, and leave it lay flat without the knife in it. By morning when I get up, the sheath is dry, and has shrunk up so it's a snug fit on the classic again.

Just curious, Mextreme, why do you think the quality of the old 58s is superior to that of the newer ones?  Inquiring minds want to know.  :D

PTRSAK, I'd be interested in seeing the other side of the "58 Monster" to see how you put the pen in since one scale has the tweezers and the other must have the LED (and any construction pics you may have.)

The most important difference is the spring tension. The tools in the old ones snap in whole other way, more like the larger SAKs. They keep the tools open in a more secure way.
Then there are small details. When you look at the photo of my Bijou above you see how the file pattern go further out to a much thinner rim than on new ones, making it easier to use.
The scale tools sit much more secure in the scales and the tweezers have a metal "hinge".
I´d go so far as to say; Never having seen a 58mm SAK and beeing presented with a vintage and a new, I would guess the new one is a knock-off.

Interesting points, Mextreme.  I didn't realize that the quality of the small SAKs had slipped.   :(  Hopefully, Victorinox will do something about it.

58mm, read Classic, is by far the most selling model, alone selling more than all the rest models, probably most selling knife in the world. A lot of the sucess is probably due to the extremely low price point that make people buying it on impulse and as souvenirs and attraktive to collect. Also pushing out 10 000 a day a small saving in cost on each one fast builds millons i pure profit and the details are such that the vast majority of the buyers are not aware or interrested in. It is still a great little tool. Fit and finish is good, excellent considering price but not like in the 70's but then it was a more expensive knife, relativly.

Maybe it's a topic for another thread. Keep the pictures coming!

The pen scale is actually sandwiched in the middle of the knife so I still have toothpick and tweezers.  Missing the light too.  Was going to make up one of Syph007's T&T holder layers, but have never got around to it.

I've been thinking for a while that this special one deserves a page of it's own as it has enough differences in tools not to be lumped together with the Rambler.

We currently have it listed as a variation and named Pharmaceutical Rambler. I think the scales on the one in the wiki got swapped. Mine still carries the original ones.
