A Guy Who Wants to Live in a Van Down by the River
on: March 07, 2015, 04:26:24 PM

I came across this article a couple days ago. It is about one of the top prospects for the Toronto Blue Jays who chooses to live in a van and a minimal lifestyle even though he has earned millions through a signing bonus. He seems like he would fit right in around here  :tu:  :

I knew my wife was a keeper when she transitioned from calling it a knife thingy to a multi-tool.

I might be crazy but it's kept me from going insane- Waylon Jennings

Pretty cool! Why do we need all the stuff the media/advertising says we need?!
  :salute:

Great life lesson!

I believe we don't need all that stuff, in fact I would go further and say that we are all being conned by manufacturers and governments into spending our  money to keep us reliant on the "system", so, of course, I love people that break the mould :)

Both my wife and I want to go small, I posted somewhere on here asking about tiny living, and why do you need all the extra room? But I'm talking like 250sqft..

For some reason, when I get up at 5 in the morning for a pee I like to have an indoor toilet, preferably in my dwellings... same for my morning routine...

Same here.

I'm a big fan of electricity, indoor plumbing, and other modern conveniences. As I've grown older I've come to appreciate the wisdom of one of my profs -"Any fool can be uncomfortable."

I think your prof is a wise man.  I have a very low key life but still have the comforts - shunning modern consumerism etc does not have to mean having to shiver and use bucket loo. To extend the argument I would assert that most of us would not shun modern medicine, however basic the rest of our lives were. :)

I'm in agreement with everyone else.  While I wouldn't mind living in a camper for an extended period, I think I'd invest in a bit nicer/better machine.  I'd like to have a washroom at least.

At two points in my life I have lived in a car for an extended period and neither time was it a lot of fun.  Of course, they were both at cold times of the year and I'm sure I would have managed much better if I was in Florida.
