Mini review: CRKT Liong Mah No6
on: March 15, 2015, 10:06:58 PM

I'm rather impressed. Quality feel to it,the lanyard is a very nice touch. One hand opening is good, easier than a Subcom42,stiffer than a UKPK or a Tern. Finish of the G10 scales is good. It's been said before it's over smooth, and I'd agree with that.

The PE section of the blade  feels like it needs a fine edge put on it,but the serations feel wicked. I like the finger choils, but I think the locking could be better. You'd be depending on the choil to keep your fingers safe.

I like the look of the pocket clip. I know Al has commented favourably on it before.

I'll be taking it to work tomorrow to give it a try out. If my pink Squeak unsettled a few people,I think the No6 might just scare the smurf out of them

Edit
That thing I was saying about the PE? Ignore that. It's smurfing sharp!

To follow up,the No6 has spent a  couple of days at work. I'm rather more impressed than I was to begin with!

The pocket clip is very good. It settles deep into your pocket, like you wouldn't know its there.

It eats cardboard packing boxes like they're not there. The serrations are broad and wide, but really rip through anything you set in front of them.

The only thing that's a concern is its appearance. The Liong Mah is far too refined to be tacti cool, but there's no way it's a gentleman's folder either! If you pulled this out to slice a lemon at a Lady's Cotillion, there's no doubt that security would bounce you on your head!

In conclusion,I thought this knife would be ok for £20. Truth be told,it's well worth it's full selling price, and then some!

So...
Pros: great blade;excellent fit and finish;lanyard is a great touch

Cons: blade lock could be tighter;scales are too smooth

Completely agree with you on all counts, particularly the bit about it being sharp out of the box! Gave myself a couple of nasty cuts by accident :).

The lockup isn't particularly solid, and there are a couple of inconsistent machining details on my example, but everything else is great — particularly for £18.

Thanks for the review!

I was waiting for that

Didn't spur you into much action though, did it. :pok:

It sounds like a good knife, though I have to admit I'm still not into the looks of it all that much.

I have the No 5 and really like it. It's one of the most "civil" of my clipped folders

One thing I've found with mine is the pivot loosens really quickly, I don't know if it's a one off or common. I'll put some loctite on it later.

Apart from that I love it.

That's a nice looking little folder. Do they make them without serrations.

Yeah, I like it but not the serrations.  They make (used to make?) the No.5 which was plain edge.
