Old Hickory Ontario Knife Co USA
on: March 26, 2015, 05:03:32 AM
I've been hoping to run in to one of these with the stamping on the blade.  I finally found one that will serve as a all around camp kitchen knife and home kitchen knife.  The sheath is from some other knife but it works so they'll stayed paired up for now.  Its a 6 inch blade that actually still has a decent edge.  I'll go with 20 degrees on each side and really make this a slicer.

As you can see its a thin full tang blade with wood handles that are held on with pins.  If the handle fails it shouldn't be an issue to make new ones and re-pin.  It's got some character for sure with the interesting blade and great patina, for a $2 knife I had to get it.

Thanks all  :salute:.  Just another blade to sharpen and put into use.  I ran the blade on some medium git rods and wow the edge really wants to come back.  I'll use my lansky tho and get it up to par.

Knocked another project out today.  I know it nothing amazing but dang this knife came out great.  I hit it with the Lansky 20 degrees on both sides which produced a razors edge.  I lightly scrubbed the steel with 0000 steel wool careful to not remove the great patina then I sanded the handles lightly with 220 then 500 grit sand paper.  I was careful to not remove the Old Hickory marking.  The brass pins brightened up very nice.   Lastly I applied 4 coats of Boiled Linseed Oil and then burnished the handles.  This knife is ready for camping like the hatchets I refinished today.

I really dont have a clue.  I'm honestly not all to familiar with these knives other than they are cool and they got lots of love from knife people.
