Getting wooden handle to showcase quality
on: March 28, 2015, 12:16:34 PM
I'm thinking about getting this Opinel 13. It's reasonably cheap and the blade looks nice. The handle is not dirty or stained, but it has a lot of scratches... what do you think? Could i get it back to display qulity in a cheap and easy way or sghould I churn out a bit more money and just get a new one?

If the price is good then I would go for it.

define cheap  :D

If it is e.g. 20% or more cheaper than new then go for it.

also decide if you want a pristine show piece or something to use, that will become damaged soon anyway.

the problem is that, even though you can polish and oil the handles, the writing will also be removed..

More like... 60% cheaper  :D

I was thinking to use it once or twice and the rest of the time to be collection highlight.

DO NOT GET IT.  :ahhh

Just tell me where someone interested may get it from (email, phone), so that I can avoid getting it

This.  Unfortunately there's no way to refinish the entire handle without damaging the print.  The only way that might work is to find a fill stick that matches the stain, fill in the scratches, and apply a clear coat.
