The NEW Pilot Precise V5 Extra Fine pen... SUCKS
on: March 21, 2015, 04:45:57 PM
I spent years finding the perfect (to me) pen.

Requirements:
1) Disposable: I don't tend to lose many things, but pens are among them, so I'm not shelling out a ton of money for one. They must be something I can stand to lose with fair frequency.

2) Fine line: These things need to make a fine, thin line, without skipping, and ESPECIALLY without blotting.

For something more than 15 years, that pen has been the Pilot Precise V5 Extra Fine pen in black ink.

And as my last old one just ran out, I just bought a new 5-pack. I would have bought a 10-pack if it office store I'd gone to had them. I'm glad they didn't. The new Pilot Precise V5 Extra Fine blots badly.

You know that crushing feeling you get when a product you could once rely on suddenly takes a sharp downturn in quality, forcing you to go on a new quest for non-crappy equipment? Yeah... that's how I feel now.

Dammit.  :-\

For sale: 4 brand new pens, one slightly used pen. And Pilot's reputation.

Dang, that's a shame. :(  Any chance you just got a duff batch?

They don't make them like they used to....  This, sadly, is true for all things, including pot-noodles, knives, cars etc......

I feel old.....

Have you tried all of them? Maybe just the one is broken?

Damn, that's too bad. I really like the v7 clicky ones, I use them every day. They're a tad bit blotchy at first but usually after I write a bit they stop. They're so smooth and fluid to write with.
I'm a total legend..... in my own mind- Herley

Admittedly, i only tried two of them, but assume if the first two are both bad then the whole batch is. I'll check the others tomorrow

Those used to be my favs for years...

I currently favour Pilot V Ball Grip 0.5

I find them far more comfortable to write with.

How did this end up? Those pens have been my go-to for many years, so I have a certain sentimental attachment to the brand and design. (I don't write much with a pen these days, just a signature when needed. I prefer graphite when writing more than my own name. :) )
