Yeah, It's not so much a Puukko than rather a Leuku, but I love big knives :D

Here we go. I don't have many, but the two individual puukkos have served me very well indeed. The one that doesn't have any BO finish is an Iisakki Jarvenpaa, and was my first fixed blade knife. I have bought several since then, but this is probably still my favourite. It did a lot of work on the boat as well as being used in many other arenas. It just works, and fits my hand really well.

The other puukko is a limited edition Brusletto that I forgot the name of many years ago. This has been another faithful companion, but the crappy sheath with my paracord bodge to compensate for the dreadful belt loop, has meant this has been very much second fiddle to the IJ.

Finally, the piggy back set has been played with a few times, and whilst the blades are good, the handle ergos aren't great. I've teetered on the fence about selling/trading it, or reshaping the handles and trying to wet mould the sheath to take up the slack caused

Not knowing much about "real" puukko's, is something I need to correct, and threads like these help with that. I'm going to need to find out which ones are considered to be genuine as I have seen other threads where there seems to be a bit of friendly banter about what constitutes authentic puukko's.

I do have one of the Spyderco collaborations that I've had for awhile and truthfully have never used it. It's nicely made and came razor sharp. Seems as though it'd cut like crazy. But I know it's not considered authentic by the purists. Or by me. ;)

Not being familiar with makers, are the designs made by the maker Spyderco went with here, considered authentic? Scandinavian custom knifemaker Pekka Tuominen.

Would it be worthwhile to look for his knives under his own name?

Thanks! Joe

That is a very nice looking knife!
I have been curious about those, but they are a bit pricey.

Im a little unsure of the true definition of a puukko. It looks like one, exept its not Finnish (but Moras are also not Finnish, and are called puukkos) and it has a hole in the blade.
Maybe some of our members from Finland can clarify that?

It is actually a Leuku (traditional Sami knife) :)

Does my Helle Symfoni knife count as a Puukko?  Wrong country but the right idea I think. ;)
