So the time has come...
on: April 13, 2015, 05:36:20 AM
The time has come that I have decided to replace my much loved super tinker from its spot in my EDC with a new SAK of a different model I have been wanting  :ahhh This Super Tinker was bought by me in late 2005 after my SAK from boy scouts went missing. After giving me almost 10 years of service it is starting to show its age. The blade spring has weekend, the scissors spring is almost dead, the scissors themselves have difficulty cutting anything the scales have fallen off multiple times and had to be been epoxied back on. It is just time to move on  :-\ I will still keep and love on my little pocket friend, and maybe carry him every now and then but upon arrival of his replacement on tuesday he will be officially retired. So have any of you guys had a SAK that got so old and warn out you decided to replace it? I would love to see pictures of your warn out SAKs and their replacements. I will show pictures of its replacement upon its arrival  :mail:, but I will give you guys a hint :) it is a larger locking blade SAK with scissors.

Here is a picture of my faithful super tinker  :climber:

The scales

It next to a relatively new SAK shows how dull the scales are now

Sad to say I've never worn one out as I do have a few to choose from (not as many as I one had though ::) ).

It certainly looks like you got your money's worth and that she's served you very well :tu:
Give in, buy several Farmer's!!!!!!

I sure did, I could probably push it into service for a few more years but I would like to retire it while it still has a little life in it.

I suppose as a super tinker fan, you appreciate its compactness and selection of tools. Transfer these preferences to the 111mm line up and voila!!!

I would have liked a 111 mm knife with exactly the same tools but that dose not exist :/ so it is as close as I can get with scissors. I have a trekker but I don't carry it ever for EDC I just need scissors.

Ten years of edc use, amazing. This is how victorinox likes to see their products.
Most of the SAK's are gifts and are laying in the drawer for a decade.

Sadly I have a a bad habit of using all my tools to the extreme :) it's rare something lasts more then a year in my pocket due to the tasks I push my tools to do.

Retired anything?.. No. I mod so I assembled my ideal tool set and if anything wears out I'm able to replace it. If I retire something it's normally not due to wear and tear but due to something better coming along.

The only Victorinoix I have broken is my rescue tool, but I have broken a lot of other tools throughout my career.

Great to see a knife after all that years of service still in good condition. The SuperTinker is a great tool, indeed. A well loved one like yours is just beautiful and plain awesome to its reason.

Thanks for sharing.

So far I love it, a few disappointments but over all it is great. I did not realize that I would be losing the space for a straight pin or that the screw driver is much smaller then the one on the super tinker however those are minor things. Over all I love the tool and the layout, I thought the extra length and weight would be noticeable but with it clipped to my pocket like my old s tinker it just disappears.
