SAK scale protector
on: April 12, 2015, 07:18:44 AM
I got ahold of some scraps of 3M clear vinyl used on car fenders to protect the paint. I thought it would work on SAK scales, after some patience and delicate molding and very minor heat from a heat gun here you go, they look brand new and should be protected. Only been on a few days so time will tell. There are other, thinner brands of the clear but 3M is all I could get. I trimmed them out with a new x-acto blade, MIGHT have been an easier application if the scales were off the knife.

This is a very interesting idea! I mean companies make screen protectors. :tu:

And now SCALE PROTECTORS! What I used gives the knife a little bit of a tacky grip. I don't know if any adhesive residue will be left over if you remove it later on- normal vinyl graphic material leaves adhesive behind when removing it.

My scales were slightly scuffed, after I put this on you can't even see them and the scales are really shiny now. This material is usually expensive! I had to get the small scrap corner-cuts for this knife project.

These are designed for spare pistol magazines but they should keep a pocket knife from getting scuffed and scratched but still quickly accessible.

I carried an emerald huntsman today in a Remora, it worked well in the same pocket with my car keys.  The OH Locksmith and SwissChamp fit in it fine as well.  Anything will fit, its just a question of how far it sticks out the top.

Also you don't even need a pocket.  Want to carry the SwissChamp for outdoors and your CyberTool for indoors?  Get one with 2 or 3 pockets.
